I get better OD tone with the Channel 1 Crunch as well. All of my overdrives ( Les Luis, Wampler Paisley and FD 2) sound great with the Express.

I just tried putting my Diamond Tremolo, MXR carbon copy delay and Hall of Fame reverb through the effects loop. I like what I'm hearing. I noticed that those three pedal do affect my tone of my Gretsch. My OD ( Wampler Paisley and Fulldrive II ) are the only pedals that go through the front of...

I'm doing the same with my Mesa. But I like pushing a few OD pedals ( Wampler Paisley and Fulltone FD2) I am really liking the 5 watt option.. there's some nice tone in them tubes.

I've been pretty happy with the "clean - chimey" sounds my Express offers. Everyone seems to be playing Vox amps these days. I went with something a little different. I am hearing new "clean" tones at the 5 watt setting ( both clean and blues channels)

Another vote for the 1x12. Played them side by side at the local GC. The 12 sounded better.

First of all, I am a new owner of a Express 5:25 and I am really happy with the tones ( clean and dirty) However, in describing this amp to my friends, I lack for words other than "amazing, cool sounding, etc" I would like to be accurate in my description. I found this quote on the web...

Hey thanks for this answer. I'm a new owner of a 5:25 with a 12" speaker. I was wondering if the hiss sound was a tube issue. Once I get playing I don't even notice it.

This was a long thread, but worth the read considering I just bought a Express 25:5 today. Thanks for posting and I'm glad that your rig is working now! Love the tone this amp puts out. Its great to hear that Mesa gives great customer service.... that's rare these days!
