All Mesa Boogie amps are worth owning but for rectifier tubes vs diodes I prefer solid state for higher wattage amps because of the extra tube maintinence. If you got a million bucks yes but nobody is going to know the diffrence live anyway.
One thing to mention is that Mesa/Boogie puts a lot...
Simply put: Yes! I would not have the output tube sockets on the main PCB just due to the heat breaking down the fiberglass and components. Sound's like at least 3K for a re-issue that is even close to the same spec and components.
Wish I would not have sold my MK III head and 480W 4x12 EV/BS speaker cab. Really a great amp. I never turned the master over 3.5-4 it would drown out the heaviest hitting drummers.
You wont kill the head. If you want to go with original spec then buy them from Mesa or find the same P/N. IF the old tubes are still working put them back in and play the amp. I would call them and they will sell you the same thing.
Mine came with Mesa 6L6GC STR420. Technically ANY 6L6 will work. The different types have slightly different sounds to them. It's not likely to burn anything out before blowing the fuse.
I had an '86 MK III looks accurate. It had Mesa 6L6GC (STR420?) Not sure why there are different amount of pins on the tubes you got but JJ is quality. Look up the tube numbers. Not sure if the manual on Mesa site has that spec on there. Did you try them yet? Judging from the Ser# looks...
So...was reading a comparison on another site about how the MKVII and the JP do not use the final master and solo level controls. Can't you just turn the output master on 9 or 10 on the amps that do and use each channel master for your volume and get the same effect? Only problem I find with...
Thanks for the reply and info! I am just surprised there is not a regular slave out on the VII which is tied to the speaker. I am wanting to keep the original tone of the amp for both the dry and wet signals.
I am wondering can I use the DI out just like the slave out to go into my effects and into a stereo power amp. I do this now with an older boogie into a JC120. Also can I use the cab clone in that signal before my effects?
I am wondering can I use the XLR DI out here just like a slave out to go into my effects and into a stereo power amp. I do this now with an older boogie into a JC120. Also can I use the cab clone in that signal before my effects? Just trying to use the JC120 clean chorus for a dry wet fill...
