JHS Little Black Box in a Triple Rectifier

Realistically one aspect of cranked tone is speaker movement and that is a result of volume. A volume in a series effects loop or an attenuator (not cheap and more suited to non-master volume amps) may help but might not fit the tone in your head or safe around family/neighbors. I get a decent...

    Wind/white noise coming from amp

Remove all preamp tube shields (if applicable) and tap the tubes gently with a pencil's eraser. That should identify the bad tube.

    Dual rect Multi-watt strange hum

Lots of things can cause hum but as Son Volt suggests starting with the tubes is a good start. Based on his suggestions I would think if you placed it in bold and it continued to hum you could eliminate the rectifier tubes. I believe bold takes the rectifier tubes out of the circuit. From there...

Need some big help restoring my Tremoverb (strange mods)

Well that's good. Those old Tremoverbs were great. I had a buddy that had one but man was it a beast to lug around! Def an amp where casters are a MUST!

Need some big help restoring my Tremoverb (strange mods)

Very unfortunate. Looks like someone was trying some mod by numbers or a lazy tech tried fixing things without removing boards. It may not be a bad idea to review old threads on this forum to see if anyone was monkeying around lol. Regardless, it looks like you have a lot going on and the cost...

Is it time for a T.R. tune up?

What a testament to Mesa Engineering and build quality. The picking up the radio stations could be tube related but is most likely bad power where you were plugged in at the time. Not sure why it would sound different without the footswitch. If the amp has sat for 5 years, you may want to...

    Recto-Verb 25 sounds muddy

I know you said the glass is new but do you know if they are good? If you do not have access to a tube tester, do you have other known good tubes and tried swapping them? Based upon what you are describing, I would start in the power section (power and PI) and then move on to other preamp tubes...

Rectoverb 50 6L6 tube and speaker discusson.

Loop switch is wired for parallel or serial and works either way. Real nice addition but will most likely use in series as my other amps are and only my TC Electronics have dry kill option. Dialed in great tone in Vintage mode and loving it.

Single rectifiers, why no rectifier tube???

When I had a 2ch Dual Rec I almost never used the tube rectification option, and I don't think most players did either back then. I would also guess it's the same today. In fact, almost everyone ran some kind of boost out front to "tighten" them up, me included. Maybe they do that today as well...

    Wah thread

I am a bona fide Wah O Holic. Not like Kirk Hammett where I can't play a solo without one rather, I own six and still find myself eyeballing other wah's! It started with a standard Crybaby modded to true bypass, LED, new inductor, caps, lower gain transistors, and every other mod known to...

Rectoverb 50 6L6 tube and speaker discusson.

The amp arrived on my wife's birthday (D'Oh, a Tuesday) and I had a surprise party to execute the following weekend. With all that behind me a couple of observations; Once I got the tubes sorted the Rectifier roar immediately put a smile on my face. I revisited the manual and dialed in some...

Rectoverb 50 6L6 tube and speaker discusson.

Ran all tubes through a tube tester and had to replace the 6V6's and 2 preamp tubes. The amp roared back to life (sounded like crap before) in all of its Rectifier glory. Nice tight and punchy! More so than I remember. A parallel loop is something I do not have much experience with. The mix...

Rectoverb 50 6L6 tube and speaker discusson.

JJ's website said it is safe if the bias select is set to EL34, The switch is near the loop mix pot and as I expected it appears to be for the loop I do not know enough by looking at it to know if it is a loop bypass or Parallel to Series mod. The work looks clean and the rest of the circuitry...

Rectoverb 50 6L6 tube and speaker discusson.

My Rectoverb Series 2 arrived today, and it was very well packaged. Unpacking it I noticed a peculiar switch under the chassis so I removed the back to see if there was anything else that did not belong, but only found a broken tube post and a piece of glass from a power tube. I proceeded to...
