    New to everything Mesa!!!

I found a video of a guy using a Mark V and he pretty much nails the Chevelle tone. I can't see his settings particularly well, other than that he's using channel 3 with quite an odd eq shape; but it does sound great! Can't tell what mode he's using, but I would wager it's Mark IV mode. Could be...

    Extreme channel

I would definitely agree on the maxing out the gain. Marks are the only amps I've ever played on that actually sound good with the gain anywhere near maximum. I don't do it but I have and it sounds great.

    Favourite commercial Mark tones

The guitar tones on Sevendust's album Animosity is all Mark IV and it sounds huge. Also, the tone on Dream Theater's The Enemy Inside is the reason I became interested in Mark Series amps in the first place. Incredible tone JP has there. Also, Ruin by Lamb of God.

    Extreme channel

Glad I could help! The channel eq settings are kind of a starting point for me, Extreme mode can handle higher bass knob settings, I'll run the treble a little higher for passive pickups than for actives, and sometimes I also like to run the mids knob around noon or a little higher for a...

    Extreme channel

Let me preface this by saying I think channel 3 needs volume to sound good much more so than the others. I use it for a modern metal sound as follows: Volume-at least 10 if fx loop bypassed Gain-3-3:30 Treble:1-2 Presence: leave at noon; has very little effect on the tone in Extreme mode Mids:9...

Strange noise with notes on G string

Tat is strange that it only happens in a certain channel, or in the case of the OP, disappears completely with another amp. Maybe the Mark is more sensitive to those frequencies? For me the problem has mostly been with the tension springs of Floyd Rose systems. I solve it with small strips of...

Strange noise with notes on G string

That sounds a lot like sympathetic vibrations within your guitar. Axes with floating bridge systems are notorious for it. Every Floyd equipped guitar I've owned had this problem. It could also be the pickups. I've seen this problem originate from a guitar's headstock hardware too. What types of...

known issue - FX send/Recieve volueme issue?

Similar thing happened to me; but I lost volume indefinitely. I hit the effects loop hard bypass switch and the sound came back. A preamp tube (v6) ended up being bad. Swapping it cleared it up.

Flashback delay in Mark V 25 FX Loop

What are your channel one volume and gain set at? With the loop active, the channel master and gain act as an effects loop send and can drive outboard FX units into clipping if set too high, even in channel one. Try dropping both of those to 8-9, increase the master output into maybe (just...

    Help with Throttle box!

I'm going to assume you're running the pedal out front, as opposed to in the loop, where eq pedals really do their magic. I've never gotten satisfying results out of running an eq before the preamp. Try putting it in the loop.

Just bought a Throttle Box EQ

Do you have the pedal in the loop? That's where you'll want it to achieve what you're going for. Running it out front won't alter the amp's tone. It'll act more like an OD or distortion pedal, in that it will only shape the sound going into the amp.

    I Chose The Mark V

Out of the corner you say? I might have to try that. My Mark V and 2-12 recto cab sit in a corner about 2 feet from the wall, and I get a good dose of piercing, headache-inducing highs with distorted tones, even with channel 2/ low gain tones. It always feels as if it's coming from behind me. I...

    Five band EQ in loop

I love mids. I'm not using a v shape on the MXR though; I just boost it at 125Hz to get a bigger low end with my 2x12 and boost 4KHz to give my sound "teeth". Just those two tweaks make a massive difference in getting a "big" sound. Sometimes I'll scoop 1KHz a tiny bit but usually only for 1...

    Five band EQ in loop

Same experience here, using the MXR 10 band. A good eq in the loop works wonders for the Mark V.

    Rivera Rock Crusher

I've definitely noticed my V comes to life after it has been running for a good while. Sometimes it sounds great just waking up, and sometimes it needs about an hour to get really cooking at what I consider "loud bedroom volumes"; like you said usually about 10 on the master if bypassing the...
