Speakers for a Vintage 2x12 Slant Metal Grill Halfback

C90/EVM--that's the classic combination, and it's great. I have a 412 HB cab like that and it's my fav cab of all time. But then there is the ALL EVM 412 HB cab I have and it is just AWESOME. Weighs about 3,987 lbs. though, so I rarely gig with it. My 212 HB cab is the C90/MS-12 version. I...

Need cheap, portable 1x12 cab for MarkV rehearsals. Which?

I use a Widebody Closed Back cab with a V30 with my Mark V C90 combo. That's a great cab, and if you don't push the V30 too hard you'll be fine. And, it should sound similar to the 212 Recto you already have. The V30 goes great with the combo's C90. The Mesa 112 EVM cab is awesome too--I...

Mark V cab choice dilema and opinions

I'm using a stock Mark V 112 C90 combo on top of a custom-ordered Wide Body Closed Back 112 V30 cab, with the matching "Boogie" badge. I have loved the open top/closed back bottom configuration since I bought my first Mark III head and 412 Half-Back cab in 1995. I was going to get a Mark V...

Mesa Amp + Pedal for Marshall Tone

As for amp settings, I'm pretty much setting both my Mark IIIs and the Mark IV in the recommended sweet spots. Both use EVMs, and I use the EVM Theile cab underneath. Bill

What Is Your Favorite Mesa 212 Combo?

What Is Your Favorite Mesa 212 Combo? From the late '50s until today, the 212 combo has been a really popular amp choice. So which Boogie is your favorite in the 212 combo format--and why? Maverick, Heartbreaker, Nomad, DC-10, Trem-o-verb, F-Series, Express, Stiletto Ace, Royal TransAtlantic...

So, Should I MOd My Mark III?

Seems like a pretty standard thing to do the R2 mod and the Reverb mod on a Mark III... ...and that's a good thing right? So should I do those mods to my Mark IIIs? Bill

Mesa Amp + Pedal for Marshall Tone

Thanks, I will check those out. Yeah, and I was figuring on using it through the clean channel. Bill

Mesa Amp + Pedal for Marshall Tone

I'm thinking more in terms of crunch rhythm, so Malcolm's tone would be a good start. I'm not into metal--but AC/DC, Free, Allman Bros., Eddie, and beyond.... sure. Whatdya got? Got to love that Plexi on 8 tone. I owned a JCM 800 4010 with EL34s and I've played though 900s quite a bit...

Mesa Amp + Pedal for Marshall Tone

I use Mark IIIs and a Mark IVA combos. What pedals can I use in front of my Mesa to give me more of a Marshall crunch tone? Here are some I've heard about: MI Crunch Box Box of Rock Radial Hot British and Plexi-Tube Carl Martin Plexitone Tech 21 British Marshall Guv'nor or Jackhammer I don't...

    Gibson stud and tailpiece replacements

No experience with the Faber, sorry; but I have Gotoh LW tailpieces from Stewart-MacDonald on three of my Les Pauls. On the Root Beer LP Supreme, it mada a pretty big difference. On the 1996 Honeyburst 1960 Classic Premium Plus, it made a huge difference. On the 1997 Heritage Cherry Sunburst...

    Favorite Guitar Strap

I have a long-time chronic pain problem after I injured my upper back in an auto accident in 1981, so I know what it is like to have back issues. I would try a 3" wide Franklin Leather strap. I've bought several of these from Guitar Center, and they are one of my favorite straps--especially...

Groove Tubes In a Mark IV

I had a store credit at my local Guitar Center and decided to treat myself to some new tubes for my Mark IVA EVM combo. I selected a set of the Groove Tubes GT 6L6-GEs (#5) for the inner sockets; but I wasn't sure what to get for the Simul-Class sockets. I finally opted for the Groove Tubes GT...

    Mark III Stripes?

I would advise you to get a Mark III Simul-class, EQ, and Reverb. Opt for the EVM if you get a combo. If you get a combo, track down a 112 EVM Theile cab. The Theile is a MUST for a combo. If you get a head version, then a 212 Half-back cab is perfect if you don't want to lug a 412. Look...

    DC3 speaker question

The original speaker for this amp is a Celestion Vintage 30--NOT an Eminence. The C90 will work, but I have never tried to fit one in the small cab. I think it would be VERY tight. Personally, I would try to get another Vintage 30 from Mesa, or have your V30 reconed by a reputable speaker...
