    NAD - Stiletto Deuce head

Funny story: I sold it a week later. I only played it for 5 minutes, and the rest of the time it was at my buddy's place. I didn't have a cabinet myself yet so it made no sense for it to just sit there. He compared it to all his gear and sent me comparison clips. I quickly came to realize...

Clip #1: That Stiletto has a smooth high-gain growl. VERY smooth. What was your signal chain? Thanks for posting.

    NAD - Stiletto Deuce head

Bought it used with 2.5 years of warranty still on it (was sold to prior owner as NOS) and all original tubes. Was dirty as all hell but after 2-3 hours of cleaning, here it is: EDIT: Ummm, well that didn't work. How does one go about attaching images here?

Best Stiletto (metal) clip I've found on the net

Hello everyone, I thought I'd post this hidden YouTube gem. Fantastic tone and playing/composition here. Mick Murphy is a killer player in my books! I think this is the Stiletto Trident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyy6ZAdEvBM

Articulation as contrasted with other amps:

Cool - thanks for that! I'll be testing that set up sometime soon (I hope). What about modern mode? And how much do you think the EMG's help with the clarity?

Articulation as contrasted with other amps:

Thanks for the input. I did move on but I have not ruled out a Roadster head and separate cabinet. I was certain that the combo version was not for me, but I am still not 100% convinced that I can live without that Recto sound… The guitar is not the issue. I've tried the amp with many...

Articulation as contrasted with other amps:

I certainly agree that the Recto's are super dynamic, and I think it's because they're not compressed like the modern high gain heads. I don't think it's an issue of amount of gain, but rather the amount of compression. But I'm not married to my hypothesis by any stretch of the imagination…

Articulation as contrasted with other amps:

That's really interesting to hear you say that. I've never had it come close to the articulation of a Mark series amp. I had tried so many settings I could not list them all. Alas, I no longer own the amp after 4 years. My buddy has both a Recto and a Mark V and had played my Roadster a...

    Recorded with my Stiletto Trident

That's some seriously out-of-control-sounding gain you've got going there! I didn't realize the Stiletto could do that. Do you recall the settings? Was the amp boosted? Was it mixed with another amp/guitar?

Articulation as contrasted with other amps:

Hello everyone, Just curious as to how articulate you all find your rectifiers as compared to other high-gain amps out there. In general. One of my main struggles with my Roadster combo was that the bass frequencies seemed to always mess up the articulation of the highs. For example, in...

    The Roadster Blues...

An update and the end of this little saga: So after putting the amp chassis back into it's housing, I fired it up and once I again I heard the sort of messy/sandy, kind of tearing-like sound coming in over top of the main sound in channel 4 Modern mode. It was too distracting/annoying for me...

    The Roadster Blues...

Well, I think that I've had a change of heart. Now that I've put all the tubes in the right order (per Bob's original instructions) and turned off the fx loop, I find that this amp is really great sounding. I now have one of the best clean channels I've ever played through, a super smooth yet...

    The Roadster Blues...

How did the Tung Sol change the sound compared to the stock Mesa preamp tube in V1? Any specifics would be greatly appreciated.

    The Roadster Blues...

Another little update: with the effects loop OFF and the Spongy mode ON this thing is super punchy and has a bit more clarity, even at relatively (for a recto) low volumes. I'm starting to dig this thing a little more each time I plug in. I'm gonna mess around with the preamp tubes a little...
