Got a Throttle Box EQ & tried it in the loop with my Heartbreaker--
Not sure if the FX loop on that thing isn't working how its supposed to, but with isolated power and very short cable run, I was getting tons of high-end roll off and volume dropout. Had the gain set low (9 o clock or less), had the Lo volume set low, and tone at noon.

What I'm really looking to do is further shape the distortion that I already love coming out of the Love channel on the Heartbreaker.

Anybody have experience with running this thing through the loop? Or should I try to find the five-band pedal on it's own?

Thanks!

If you can turn off the throttle-box part it may work but doubt it. That pedal is more or less a front end deal (instrument level only). For the FX loop, the 5BGEQ or equivalents would be what you need. Not sure if the heartbreaker runs at line level or not. It sounds like you overloaded the pedal's input buffer which will kill off the tone considerably if the FX loop is not at instrument level. The Mesa 5BEQ also has limits on its use in FX loops. I can say this, it worked in the TC100 quite well as that amp runs +4dBu levels, clean channel and was a bit lower on the gain channels. No issue swamping out the buffers of the 5BGEQ. Tried it with the Roadster, MWDR, and RA100. not a problem.

Sweetwater is indicating the 5BGEQ is no longer available. May need to do a search to find one. Good luck with that. Many other places still have it listed but much call for availability. Not sure if it has been discontinued.

Thanks Bandit! All that makes sense

I was on the phone with Boogie peeps here and they said the 5BEQ should work great even with gain on the heartbreaker pre.

If anyone here has a 5BEQ for sale please hit me up!

You may be able to find then on Reverb. Not sure what the status of the Mesa EQ pedal is currently. Nothing indicated it was discontinued, just not available. Manual is still in the active content folder on Mesa's Website. Most of the pedals and such were not transferred from the old website now called Legacy. Mesa switch track also went missing. However, I was able to get a new one not too long ago from Sweetwater. For some time their product page for that item was either stated as not available or they hid the item from view. Mesa would be able to answer the status question about the 5BGEQ, is it discontinued or just out of production for some unspecified time.

I'm using two 5BEQs in the respective loops of my Badlanders and they work great. @anamanaguchi, per our previous exchange, worth trolling Reverb on a daily basis like I did to find one. I grabbbed my second one via a WTB a I placed on Craigslist. @bandit2013, I'm in pre-production on a Badlander video and per your two Badlander heads, if you ran one as a master and the other as the slave, you could run the send of the master into the EQ, then into your Strymon for the stereo spilt and then back into the return on both amps. Regardless, if you liked it in the loop of your MWDR and haven't tried it with your Badlanders yet, I think you've gonna love it there as well.

@bandit2013 Right on yeah, I called Mesa last week and they told me they don't make it anymore. Who knows!

@Doug Doppler Currently got a Reverb tab open, a sweetwater used tab open, 3 facebook marketplace tabs all across North America, an ebay tab, zzsounds search, musicians friend, guitar center used, 4 craigslists searches spanning the continental US, and two facebook messages active with people who have them and might be interested in selling one. Refreshing these about 5 times a day LOL

Doing that because I missed one by an hour 😢

It is too bad Mesa dropped that product. It works really well with amps that lack the 5BGEQ. TC100 for example was a hit.
There are other products out there, but they will be different than the Mesa 5BGEQ. Some of them are noisy or may not support the FX loop.

LOVE THAT, you're gonna nab one FOR SURE with that, "Go get 'em" attitude. ALSO, people tend to list on Reverb on Fridays and Saturdays, so those days in particular are the ones to be on top of Reverb:)

It sure is. On a different thread there was a lot of love for some other EQs including the Alesis DEQ230D digital (2x30 band digital EQ) which ironically I've had sitting like new in a box for years. Also talk about the benefits of Parametric options vs. Graphic. Interesting.
