Shipping MK III head back to Boogie

What are you all using to ship your amps back to HQ? I have a MKIII that is due for maintenance and I am trying to figure out what to ship it in so it isn't damaged in transit.

ship the chassis only. use cardboard and slabs of foam from other packing to make sure there's at least 1.5" "solid" protection around the chassis on all six sides, and that it can't move at all. don't use any loose fill.

for packing material, heavier tech stuff like desktop computers, servers, and UPS devices often ship with sturdy foam pieces that are already designed to protect rectangular-shaped things

When I did this back in the 80s I wrapped the chassis with a plastic bag and bathroom towels!

If you have an actual mesa box,that's the best bet. Ive used the same mesa box to send a mkiic+ and a coliseum to them..The box is already form fitted with foam and they actuality pack the head upside down.
I also wrap the power tubes with bubble wrap and tape it all in.

I guarantee it will make it there unharmed.

If you take the insides out to save money and make the shipment lighter, I would also use an ESD bag. You don’t want static electricity to build up potentially damaging components.

I shipped mine FedEx and I got every impression that they don't like shipping higher-value insured items like this any more. And even though they took my $$$ for the insured amount I wanted, I was told in no uncertain terms that there was NO guarantee I should expect a meaningful payout should something happen. The clerk had to cut open the package and visually confirm the contents first, and then could not find a fitting description in their system to classify the package, it shipped as 'computer speakers'.

Fortunately it was delivered without issues.

I was disappointed with my experience and I would not use them again for an amp.

Wow! That's bad service. I'd report that to a regional manager. That's the entire purpose of insuring packages
I worked at a tool and die shop many years ago now, but we frequently shipped tens of thousands of dollars of machine parts out of state for proprietary playing of exotic metals for medical equipment, and there was no question that everybody in the chain of shipping knew it was a high value shipment. They tag them differently. They are treated differently, and claims do get paid.
There are thousands of critical things that are shipped and insured for high value via FedEx and UPS every single day.
