Wow! That's bad service. I'd report that to a regional manager. That's the entire purpose of insuring packages
I worked at a tool and die shop many years ago now, but we frequently shipped tens of thousands of dollars of machine parts out of state for proprietary playing of exotic metals for medical equipment, and there was no question that everybody in the chain of shipping knew it was a high value shipment. They tag them differently. They are treated differently, and claims do get paid.
There are thousands of critical things that are shipped and insured for high value via FedEx and UPS every single day.
