Quad does'nt seem to have much gain.

I have been reading about the Quad on the board and I have a chance to buy one for $500, when I played on it, it did'nt have much gain. I just wanted to know is that something a tune-up having it gone through and retube will fix, or is it ok to run an overdrive in front of it without hurting it for that deep chuncky heavy metal tone? Also how does the effects loop take to something like G-major or G-force. Also I'm running a 2/100 Recto and I just bought a 2/50, which one will work better with the Quad or is it just personal taste? Thanks a bunch for your feedback!!!

been a while since i had mine, but it had tons of gain. i would try the tube route first. I mainly used the lead channel of the second preamp.

Probably needs a retube. Mine has as much gain as my Mark III and IV had.

Can you give me a couple choices on tubes that have sounded the best with the Quad? Thanks!
