I've been able to get respectable heavy tones out of a Fender Deluxe Reverb with a V-Twin for years. Its never going to crush like a big Recto but it sounds better than some high gain lunchbox amps.

The V Twin is deeply underrated; I use it for a country gig in front of a Deluxe Reverb clone. It can do a reasonable high gain tone, but at lower gain settings, it also works very well.

Anything is possible with a good fuzz pedal. The Lonestar has enough grind to it for rhythm and then just punch a Tubescreamer or something for the overdrive.
