Got a comment on one of my clips on youtube channel this week:

You should turn the gain down a little more with the emgs. And try turning the presence up to around 2 cut the mids way back there creating? insane amounts of fizz and mudd theres no need to go past 1 oclcock on them. Try these out if you want Presence- 2 oclock Bass- 2 o'clock Mids- between11 oclock- 12oclock Treble- 1 oclock Gain- between 1 oclock an 2 o'clock These are my main settings in the studio. I run mesa 6l6s and only use passive pups. And I installed a choke in my boogie.

Ok he has an issue with my settings, cool. What works for one may not work for another, to each his own.
But when he says he installed a choke on his dual recto (when it has one lol) I was like "lolwut?

My reponse:

@themelodicdeathshow: Do you mean you installed a "better" choke in your recto? Because all rectos have a choke installed. Your settings are cool, but are they dialed on a 3CH? recto, or 2ch? I have changed my settings since I shot this vid though, kinda similar to yours but I keep the bass at 12:00 and the presence at about 3:00

He replies:
I have a 97 2 ch blackface, and rectos do not have chokes they? have resistors the newer ones might.

Its cool though there amazing amps.

I play with settings depending where were playing and what not.

I should send him here for some education on rectos  ...

Something tells me he will be reading this (or already has). It's not me.

But yeah...

I am sure he will cry himself to sleep now that he knows how obviously superior your Boogie knowledge is.

It isn't about Boogie knowledge, it's about the guy was lying through his teeth.

Yes, he is a dirty, dirty liar, and there is no possible way he was/is ignorant to the fact that Rectos have chokes.

I have a rectoverb and I don't have a clue wtf a choke even is.

I have a diff approach to eq. I turn up the mids and roll presence all the way down. Gain is at like 1:30

I thought most amps have a resistor(s) that serve the same purpose as a choke but very few amps actually have chokes stock, and I thought rectos didnt have chokes stock

The way I remember hearing : chokes are more efficient and therefor sound better than resistors but are more expensive so most companies opt out of chokes :?

All Recto have a choke. AFIK it's been in the design from the start. If you look through the "bias pot" thread http://forum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=35849 you can clearly see the choke mounted inside the chassis next to the Power Tranny in some pics, and is listed on the schematics. The choke on my Roadster is mounted outside the chassis next to the Power Tranny.

The poster on YouTube probably doesn't know better, and because of that maybe got ripped off for a choke install.

Yes, but the point is that the comment writer claimed he had installed a choke. So he either has been lied to (if he had paid for someone else to "install" the choke) or he is making it all up, i.e. lying.

I don't know which of my amps have chokes and which don't either, but the difference is that I don't go around claiming that I've installed chokes in them.

Ignorance has nothing to do with it. He claimed to have installed one himself. You understand that, right?

this might be a good time to bring up the whole "argument on the internet/special olympics" thing.

^ I knew that was coming sooner or later.

I don't like any disinformation about Mesas being spread around, especially on my youtube video/channel

Dude, there is disinformation EVERYWHERE and for some reason it spreads like wildfire. YOu know, like people who write all Mesas off as 'metal amps'. :(

Very true! At least the boogie board as a community knows how much ground a mesa can cover. :D

Yes, and how much ground a Mesa can cover with one guitar without moving even one knob on the amp. This is the BEST PART!

I learned how to use my volume controls because of the Boogie Board and I'm having more fun than I ever did before. Now I set my gain a bit too high with the Recto and the Electra Dyne. Turn down the volume for rhythm and turn it up for leads! VOILA!!!!
