I want to dial in a nice, loud, punchy clean tone that I can switch to a moderate lowish gain overdrive tone that doesn't sound boxy (I'm using the combo).

Between the dual EQs and the three volume controls it must be possible.

I didn't really like the suggested settings in the owner's manual. Most of the overdrives were just too over the top. I am looking for lower gain rock crunch.

Any settings, tips, or tricks would be appreciated.

thanks

Tough call. I don't have a combo, but here goes:

I reduced the "boxy" tone of the lead setting with a couple of things: 1, I put a 12ay7 (or was it a 12au7?) in V1. Still plenty of gain, but sounds a little less "stuffy". 2. Use the graphic EQ to take most of the mids out, and set it to "auto" so the EQ is only on the lead channel.
