    Tremoverb

Moving "tremoverb" out of the sold section of my signature. I forgot how LOUD these are. I have a CaptorX box between the amp and the cabinet, so I flipped the attenuator to first reduction stage for the first time ever and it's much more manageable. I think I'm going to have to get the serial...

    Bought a Mark VII!

And I love it! Feels like this is The One for me. Channel options work great for me, basically sticking with Clean, Crunch, and IIC+ mode. I usually keep the eq off but it really sculpts the sound well when it is in use. This is the best IIC+ mode I have experienced. I am feeling my attachment...

    Export Transformer Question

The export transformer on my '88 blue stripe Mark III is 571100/E1A606740. I know that E1A6060 indicates that it's a Schumacher transformer, but this isn't equivalent to an X101, right? I've never really known, so I thought I'd ask.

    Gloriously Brutal Mark I Metal

I just came across this video by Jeremiah Augustine on Facebook. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jpdv0oVk610&feature=youtu.be I love it.

    Tweed and Edge Mode Discovery

The sample set of ten watt settings in the manual on page 7 sound good (Tweed, Edge, and Extreme modes) but Tweed and Edge really break up nicely on variac power. I came back to them after turning on full power and initially thought "where did the gain go?". Switched back to variac and they...

    IIC+ mode tip

If you are struggling with IIC+ mode, make sure your cabinet is on the floor. This is covered in the manual but it's easy to miss and it makes an enormous difference in how big your amp sounds in the room. From the manual: helpful hint #19 IMO, if your cab is on wheels, IV mode is better. But...

    TC-50 clip

Short one but I really like this: https://soundcloud.com/dlpasco/mesa-tc-50-demo. Les Paul Standard straight into the amp, clean channel and then red channel.

I wish the Mark V had pull pots

I wish that I could use Pull Bright, Treble Shift, Bass Shift, and Pull Deep on my Mark V channels instead of having to deal with hard-wired combinations. I feel like I could do some more interesting things with Clean mode on Channel 1 and IIC+ mode on Channel 3 (being able to engage Pull Deep...

What I've learned about the Mark III

I'm pretty wiped out right now, but this has really been on my mind lately. I have now owned: A blue stripe Mark III Two different Mark Vs Two different Mark V:25s Two different JP-2Cs A Mark IIC+ Selling and rebuying amps was an expensive and probably stupid process. My credit cards are...

    Mark V ground loop hum?

I'm getting a wicked hum on my 90 Watt Mark V when I plug into the Slave Out, which I do *not* get when I plug into the fx loop send. Besides the hum, the slave out sounds better for what I'm using it for than the fx loop output, and I also want to be able to this with the fx loop completely...

    Mark III R2

Okay, here it is: no Mark has a better crunch tone than the III. Fight me.

    IIC+ footswitching not working.

So my IIC+ can switch between clean and lead modes fine if I push/pull the lead drive knob. I recently noticed that the foot switching DOES not work. Clean is there but on the lead mode it gets very quiet (you can hear something, but it's barely audible). I've eliminated cables and foot...

Nice use for the Cab Clone: combo speaker extender

I have a combo amp on top of a speaker set up for recording, just the way I like it. I wanted to do some recording with one of my other amps and didn't really want to mess with the speaker/microphone setup, so I plugged the combo amp's speaker into the speaker output of a Cab Clone and my head...

    Getting back to the TC-50

I've been focused on my Mark V/AT7 for the last few weeks. Last night I decided to do some work with my TC-50 - it's such a great amp. Really loving how fully it sits in the mix. The lead tone for solos is probably one of the best I've ever heard.

    I bought a Mark IIC+

After a lot of prodding from GJgo, I bought a Mark IIC+ off Reverb (I mean, a LOT of prodding, he tracked the deal down, nagged me, and practically hit the 'buy' button). It was definitely way too good of a deal to pass up. So I now own an SG (60 watt, graphic eq). It's a lovely amplifier...

    Mark I Mode

I find that Mark I Mode is okay at home, but am always amazed at how great it sounds in a live band mix. I’m playing with two other guitarists in a Weezer cover band and when I switch from clean to channel 2 it sounds incredible: huge, gnarly, authoratative. It’s a popular tone with the rest of...

90W Mark V becomes the BEST Mark with preamp tube tweak?

If you haven't followed this thread (http://www.grailtone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=73352), Apeman and Bandit2013 outline how a few preamp tubes changes can transform the big daddy Mark V into everything it was ever meant to be. The original title of the thread wasn't particularly clear...

    Rivers Cuomo/Weezer Blue Album Mark

So, I was pleasantly surprised this week to find out that the original Weezer guitar sound came courtesy of a Mesa Mark amp. What's weird is, according to conventional lore, it was a 60 Watt, no eq, Mark I head http://weezerpedia.com/wiki/index.php?title=Rivers_Cuomo%27s_equipment. Based on...

    Kim Thayil Homage: TC-50/Multiwatt Recto

I always liked the sound that Kim Thayil was able to running his Electra Dyne and Tremoverb in parallel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahUfbGLBcYs&app=desktop), so I pulled out my multi watt rectifier and my TC-50 and decided to see what I could come up with. The TC-50 rig on the left has...

    Mark III Videos

I just got done shooting a bunch of videos based on a purple stripe Mark III I'd borrowed from a friend at the Seattle Guitar Store. The whole thing is setup as a playlist here, but the individual videos go as follows if anyone is interested: Balanced ("Happy Medium") Settings Demo...
