Sunshine of your Love. Eq help

My personal opinion is that Clapton is using a Tonebender on this track. I say this as the Tonebender has that long sustain you need for this track. The Solo sounds like he turned it off. Regards Mark

Free I think I got scammed

Sorry to hear the scammer got your money. These people have no shame. I have been scammed on the price of a guitar. It wasn’t what he claimed it to be. Regards Mark

    Keith Richards Mk I settings?

I started out thinking Boogie were used briefly and I saw a mention in Wiki and gear sites and he used them for 16 years. I typically, remember Keith using an Ampeg VT-40. I had one for a while and they do the Mick Taylor era quite well. I didn’t follow them after Tatoo You, so I wasn’t sure...

    Keith Richards Mk I settings?

Keith didn’t use Boogie amps for very long. Wiki has Keith using them from 77 to 93. 16 years is a long time.

MB 295 saved from the trash.

This is the actual circuit diagram of the “preamp” stages of the 295 dual power amp. The drawings on the internet leave out the presence control. I hope this is of assistance to people needing to repair a 295 amp. I was quite surprised by the 400v orange drop caps going short circuit. It’s...

Replacing valves on a mark III blue stripe , what colour valves to replace?

Red - coldest Yellow Green Gray Blue White - hottest You will want the 6L6’s to run a bit hotter and the EL-34 to run a bit cooler from my limited experience. The limiting factor will be the EL-34’s. If you run them too hot you will have a very short valve life. The 6L6’s as far as I can...

MB 295 saved from the trash.

Okay, the saga continues. The output valves seemed fine and the amp wasn’t blowing fuses anymore. I tried plugging a guitar in and I was getting nothing out. I decided to use the iPhone to pump a sine wave into the amp and I got a sound out of it. I thought signal level might be an issue, so I...

MB 295 saved from the trash.

I tested the caps with my Peak cap tester and they measured good. They are quite an expensive item to replace if there is nothing wrong with them. I measured all the resistors on the output stage and they were good too. I was surprised as carbon comp resistors typically drift over time. I’m...

MB 295 saved from the trash.

Hi Woodbutcher The fault ended up being the bridge rectifier two of the four diodes were short circuit. I was surprised that they were 1N4007’s as they have a 1A rating and most guitar amp use 1A, but in this amp there are two power amps. I replaced the 1N4007’s with 1N5408 which have a 3A...

MB 295 saved from the trash.

A friend of my brother was going to throw out a Boogie 295 dual power amp. I was shocked to say the least. Apparently he didn’t want to sell it as he was told it would be unreliable in the future. I certainly hope this person wasn’t a technician. I have had a quick look at it and it appears...

Help with my 1978 Mark I

“I wonder if I should eliminate the 0.12uF cap at the start of the circuit. It is in series with the existing 0.047uF coupling cap, so it seems like it would do nothing, since it is already coupled, and moreover with a cap of lower value. As I understand it, the 0.047uF already blocks the too...

SOBR vs KOB limiter title match

Hi I was wondering if you have a detailed picture of how the reverb is implemented in the SOB amps? I have never seen an SOB with reverb. Regards Mark

Thoughts on trying the Van Halen Variac trick with a rectifier

I though EVH did this purely to reduce the volume of the amp and in the studio he ran the amp stock? I have heard he used a large resistor to shun the output stage to reduce volume and ran the amp on 6CA7’s as the EL-34’s didn’t like the abuse. Personally, I think you are wasting your time...

    Mesa Boogie SOB mod.

Back in the Boogie club, '82 SOB

I didn’t like having a post P.I. Master Volume, I thought the distortion sounded harsh compared to the pre P.I. master volume. I decided to put a resonance control in the negative feedback loop. It works okay. I liked the 0.003uF in the P.I. stage, I tried 0.01uF and it was too big. I then...

    MK111 Heater resistors

I don’t think you will find anything. Though it’s not a good sign if the socket is going really dark with heat particularly between pins 2 & 3. If the socket was faulty it would be very dramatic. I would check your 470 ohm screen grid resistors while you are in there. Regards Mark
