My new (sort of) Mesa amp...WOW

James; not sure about the gain factor of the RCA's. I've only used RCA's and GE's in the amp and have never been at a loss for volume or sustain but I'm basically a clean player. I would guess that if you're into more of a metal sound that the pre amp tubes would not be as critical

My new (sort of) Mesa amp...WOW

I have the 60 watt MK 1 head with the EQ and run RCA 12ax7s and the amp sings. Word of warning, I just replaced my old RCA 6l6's with JJ's and had a hell of a time getting them in the head. Had to pull the chassis to fit the tubes and they barely fit because they were too tall. Thought I was...

    If Only We knew!

Yea tell me!! Was thinking of replacing the DiMarzios on my LP so I did a little searching and found original PAF's for "only" $4,500 ea. Even the old hardware; knobs, pots, plastic parts, etc. is going for big $$$. Maybe I should part out the LP and retire to Fla. I still have some...

    If Only We knew!

It only hurts when I look at my son's college tuition bill! Really the $$ doesn't bother me but I sure would like to step back in time to re-evaluate what I had. The LP will be buried with me so the reduced collectors value is no big deal; besides I hated the gold top and the p-90's at the time...

    If Only We knew!

Just getting back into playing seriously after about a 15 yr. layoff. (Motocross and guitars don't mix) First thing I did was hit a few sites to find info. on repairing my old Boogie and I was amazed to see the value of these things today! I've never been a collector and haven't had a lot of...

    Smoke and bad noises!

As the amp is about 30 yrs. old and has had no work ever done to it should I have all the caps replaced? Is this something I can trust any tech with or should I send it out to a mesa authorized repair shop. Will changing out old parts change the amp sound? Sorry for all the ?'s but this is all...

    Smoke and bad noises!

Well it wasn't just a tube problem as I hoped. Amp had a bad ground type of hum; all tubes very noisy. Changed the old RCA's with some old Peavey USA made 6l6's and tried a few different 12AX7s. Last check I saw smoke and hit the power immediately. Smoke appeared to be from the capacitor area...

    Old Boogie Identification Help

Thanks for the link. Appears that I have a pretty old 60 watt Mark I head. I had used it regularly for a number of years but it started to loose its tone and then a few crackles and it died. I retired from gigging shortly after and the amp has been sitting unused for a long time. I know it...
