Love/Hate relationship with my SOB 100 watt head...

I have an '85 SOB combo. I love the tone of this amp, but I agree that what you are trying to do is tough. The gain stages (a.k.a. vol 1 and vol 2) are stacked in series. It is easy to set up vol 2 for a clean sound, and but then somewhat difficult to set vol 1 for a good overdriven/distorted...

    Son of Boogie: thoughts?

I had an SOB built by Mesa back in 1985. It's still my main gigging amp. A tank. Period. I've never had a single issue with it. Changed the filter & bias caps 5 years ago for the first time because I knew I should... not because I had to. Mine is Simul-class (15watt class-A or add in 60watt...

    Simul-Class question

I have an '85 SOB w/SC.... works like this: Class-A mode: 15watt class-A biased output only.... Fender Tweed kind of tone and breakup....great for small venues. S.O.B. ???'s

I ordered my SOB new from Mesa in 1985. I still gig with it and it has never let me down.... an amazingly robust amp... but yes.. a little shy on the 'modern features'. It actually was offered with some decent options in '85. Mine has SIMUL-CLASS..... 15/75.... 15 watt Class-A.... 75watt is...

    Son of Boogie input switching?

Just a couple of tips..... not any A/B box works here. The way the SOB is designed, the two inputs are in series. When you plug guitar cords into both inputs to use an A/B, you unground IN1, which needs to be regrounded by the A/B box when you switch to IN2.... or else you can get noise...
