    Does LSS Cut it Live

I switched out the stock C-90's in my LSS 2x12 with Celestion Golds. The difference is incredible. My amp breaths and is nearly 3d. I will switch the tubes next, but cannot find the NOS Teslas (not JJ) I desire and Mullards are a bit pricey.

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

What settings are you using? I'm still tweaking the amp between settings 1 and 2. After I switched the speakers to Golds this has made a difference so I sort of bwegan over. It's not there yet, but I'm getting closer. With the humbuckers it seems to be a less forgiving endeveor, but WOW when...

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

Thanks for the info, good stuff. I'm a year away from retubing as I have two other projects to finiash first. How about a 12 AT 7's in V-4 and V-5 like thwe Mullard 4024? They appear affordable and I've read some good things about them in these slots.

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

it looks like Mike has sold out the Telsa's, at least for now. Any backup suggestions for preamp tubes Mick? It will be a couple of months before I can afford to switch the tubes , but with the speaker swap the difference is remarkable. Bruce

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

I finally swapped out the C-90's with the Celestion Golds. OMG!!! A good 30-50 % improvement. I can hear every string, move, and can nearly hear it breath. The tone is alive. I still have a little buzz in the Lp and I do not hear with a Strat and the bridge pup in the LP sounds a little...

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

There is a guy on harmony central that speaks about gluing " 2 INCH WEDGE- SHAPED AURALUX FOAM REFLEXION KILLING MATERIAL" inside his recto and raves about the result. That will be my next move as well to tame this beast.

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

That is a lot of work. I just kept mine as an extension and use it to round out my primary sound/tone as by thremselves the vintage 30's sound a little harsh IMHO. I am having the Hollywood Mesa store install my Celestion Gold replacements next week. It looks like I could do it, but I don't...

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

It's an improvement over the stock C-90's. It will really depend on your syle and it becomes a matter personal taste. For more modern sounds, metal, thrash, etc they are good. I have a recto cab with 2 Vintage 30's and it's great to compliment the 2x12 amp. For blues or classic rock better...

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

I received my Celestion Golds yesterday. Now to schedule a time to get them installed. I am going to get it professionally done so I don't screw something up.

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

Thanks for the advice Mick. As a neebie I seek all advice I can get. Did you use any adhesive agent in your mounting. A friend has told me he uses silicon to e nsure his seal, but Mesa/Hollywood said no adhesive is needed. I finally ordered 2 golds on Thursday. We they arrive then I'll...

WOW! I wonder if anything still tests as good

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

I contacted John T at Mesa Hollywood. He stated the switch would only void the speaker warrenty. However if the speaker malfunctions and causes amp failure then I'd be in trouble.

    Telefunken ECC83 / 12AX7 smooth plate NOS

I'd have a large stash too if I could afford the $$$$$. Am considering a small stash as they will only become more rare and costly.

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

Thanks for the info. I thought that this would be the case, but the results should be worth it although I still have 3 1/2 years of warrentee left. My LSS is built like a tank and I baby it. Do you anticpiate problems that require the warrentee?

    Telefunken ECC83 / 12AX7 smooth plate NOS

I agree, a misprint. Otherwise I play about 10 hours a week. That's 520 hours a year. For 10,000 hours I could play 192 years! Cool, I'll get my money's woth for sure. In all seriousness 10,000 hours is still a lot of play time compared to current production runs of approximately 2-3000 hours.

    Telefunken ECC83 / 12AX7 smooth plate NOS

Thanks for this correction. I am new at this, but have been doing alot of research to understand these tubes as to retube my amp.

    Telefunken ECC83 / 12AX7 smooth plate NOS

You need to look at Tesla (not JJ). These are made on Telefuken equipment to exacting specs. These are a lower cost tube with an excelent reputation. Much better than anything made today. Mike @ kcanostubes.com raves about them and has a ready supply. I have no financal interst in this other...

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

I am ordering my Celestion Golds on monday. Did you switch them out yourself or get it done by someone else. It appears to be an easy operation, but I don't want to screw this up. I want to ebay the C-90's.

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

I spoken with Mike and he has recommended Telsa (not JJ's) all around. When you switched back to 12 AX7's did you you NOS or the standard Mesa's? I think I'll do the Celestion Golds first then retube afterwards to better dial in the tone of the amp. Mike seems to be very knowledgable about...
