Recommend an Alnico Spkr for Mesa Lonestar Special

I put 2 Golds in my 2x12. Luv it! Sweet tones, great range, and just has intangibles that I find more pleasing to the ear that the C90's.

    LSS speaker suggestions

I went to Celestion Golds. Look the switch. I still use a recto cab as an extension , but may switch out the c30's with scumbacks.

    Best EL-84's?

I'm getting some GE's. Would like some Mullards, but I think they're tooooooo much $$ at the present time. I do not think they'll go down. Waterford Values has reports on different tubes they're tested.

    LSS and Pedals

What pedals do you use with your LSS? I'm getting a ZD2 and am very excited.

Alnico Blues or Greenbacks with an LSS?

Could be, but the Gold's are great, sound great, and I'm happy.

Alnico Blues or Greenbacks with an LSS?

The Golds are great. My amp is a 2x12. With the high seeting of 33 watts on the amp I wanted to be certain that I didn't blow a cone, speaker etc. The 33 watts is a conservative rating. I listened to the Blues and didn't lose a thing by going Gold and gained a margin that makes me more...

Alnico Blues or Greenbacks with an LSS?

Do you have any sound clips available? I have a 2x12 extension cabinet with Celestion 30's in it. They sound a little brittle with the LSS.

Lonestar Special - preamp tube replacements

Great choice of tube! I'm looking use the same tube on V1 but use a RCA 6761 Blackplate on V-2 and a RCA 7025 on V5.

    Mods for sale!!!

Thanks, I'm considering some changes to my Paul to see if this brings "the Magic". It's there and teases me at times. It is getting closer. I've spoken with several guitar builders to gather ideas. Scott Lentz suggested that the caps need to be changed as Gibson uses inferior quality caps...

I assume you're talkin about your LSS? I may well speak to you later about resetting the bias, but for now Rock on.

    Mods for sale!!!

Thanks. I do think it's the pickups as well. Scott Lentz thought it was the caps instead and I may have him change them, but the stock pickups are not what they should as the neck is muddy and bridge can be thin at times. I plan to get another guitar soon, an Eastman 185 MX (335 copy) with...

    Mods for sale!!!

I don't know that my amp is missing anything, I just would like more. Your diccussion of changing the bias and a retube should do everything I need. I want a badass EL-84 and it's close, but ... . I'm looking at a Meteor II or a Mojave Plexi-45 as well, but would consider a LSC. That...

    Mods for sale!!!

I have already switched out my speakers with Celection Golds. I'm in the process of gathering preamp tubes. I have two Teslas (not JJ's) and two NOS rectifier tubes, one a 5Y3 and the other a 5V4, both labeled as Mullards (some question about the 5Y3). Then power tubes. I was thinking...

Thanks for understanding. Ice cubes was my attepmt, poor attempt, to cleverly discuss the power tubes that are stock. Glad to hear the power goes down. I'm mechanically challenged and completely ignorant to electric stuff. My LSS 2X12 is a 2006 model. I like it, but it teases me with...

    Mods for sale!!!

Thanks for your reply. You certainly sound as if you know your stuff, but to send my amp to a stranger, well I am cautious. My last question was at what power, plate voltage, do your mods get the amp to operate at? I don't want to fry the board later. I understand the need for new power...

Do you have any refferances/testimonals from people that you've done bias or other work for? Do you have a commerical site or do you work from home? What do you set the bias/cathoide for a LSS at?
