Anyone ever run any of their settings at '10'?

I run my Mark IV with the lead drive and/or gain at 10 sometimes. I also use the Eurotubes high-gain front end. Total shred. Of course torturing your preamp section like this adversly affects tube lifespan. Some may say it sounds like ****. It sounds like metal to me.

how heavy is the Rhythm 2 channel on the Mark IV?

Hey man. I use a Mark IV for metal and I gotta say, the lead chanel is the way to go if you decide to get one. Channel 2 is cool for jammin' out some Zep or Sab but the lead channel is the ticket to modern ultra saturated unstopable gain. I compress and gate but use nothing else to achieve...

    My Mark IV finally arrived.

That grill piece is usally just fastened with velcro and should pop right off. I can se no reason why Mesa couldn't send you another one with the desired color. Even cheaper/better would be a piece of the fabric so you could just recover the one you have and pop it back on.

    Multiple amps / one cab

I guess I'm gonna go with the stero split method. I would have liked to run both amps on all four cones but it sounds like too much of a hassle. Thanks for the responses guys, this forum has always been super: people helping each other out for the sake of rock and roll. Mesa rules, rock on!!

    Multiple amps / one cab

Thanks for the link. I am more interested in running both amps in paralell at the same time rather than switching between them. Is this even possible?

    Multiple amps / one cab

I want to combine the sounds of two different amp heads. Is there a way to run two amps into one cab? Or will it just fry the cab? Thanks. Sorry if this is a retarded question.

Key to Good tone with MKIV IMHO

Oh. You should also look around this forum and grailtones for user submitted settings for the amp. They often include tone descriptions and can help get you started up. Mark IV has more buttons/switches/options with all sorts of crazy combinations than any other amp I've owned.

Key to Good tone with MKIV IMHO

Jamme, I was lead to believe that power tube performance is different on Mesa amps than on most others just because of the way they are made. They run at a fixed bias which is typically factory set quite 'cold'. On lots of other amps you can bias hotter, i.e. give 'em more power and yield more...

    METAL!!!!! mesa wins

I play a Mark IV through a Recto cab for metal, and absolutly love it. I use a little compression, and a gate to cut the squeal. I've retubed with JJ's using high gain preamp tubes (115+). No distortion or overdrive effects, and it freakin' shreds all day long. Taking time to get the amp set...

Shredding: Mark IV vs. Triple Rec.

My Mark IV is a head powering an oversize Recto cab. I am using a BBE maxcom which also has the sonic maximizer built in. I am not currently playing out, but shold be in the near future. G.A.S. = Gear Acquisition Syndrome ?? Lemme guess, no cure for it except going broke or deaf.

Shredding: Mark IV vs. Triple Rec.

I am currently a very happy Mark IV owner who uses his amp for metal / shred. I love the sound I've got now. I have the chance to buy a Triple Rec. Do these things shred? I've heard Mesa Rectifiers before, and wasn't too impressed with the amount of saturation. I didn't have the chance to...

Help!! My Mk IV's Lead channel is making unpleasant sounds!!

Unfortunately the only real way of finding out is by switching a new tube into each socket one at a time until the noise goes away. 3 and 4 are good ones to try first though. Hope this helps.

    Dual Rec rack mount

Does anyone know offhand what years Mesa produced the rack mount Dual rectifiers?

    Mark Iv's Reverb

I have noticed some weirdness when experimenting with reverb on the lead channel. I use my lead channel for thrashing, pegged right out so as a general principal I don't use reverb. When curiosity got the better of me, I tried it out, and it was strange. Weird slapping sounds immediatly...

    Retubing my mark III

I have had great luck with JJ's in my Mark IV. I purchased them as a retube kit, with high gain front end from eurotubes.com. They sound great for metal, which I play all the time.

What tool is used to clean the tube socket contacts?

Be careful when removing the amp from the cabinet. First either remove, or be mindful of the tubes. Inverting the whole head during the process helps too, use a stool or something to set it on so you can still acess the four main screws to remove them. Second, once the amp slides out of the...

    question on the MKIV

Crate is junk. Totally entry level bargain hunter gear as far as guitar amplification. IMO you get what you pay for most of the time. Are Boogies and other high end all tube amps expensive? Yes. Do they kick the **** out of solid state and modeling amps? Unquestionably. When your friend...

What tool is used to clean the tube socket contacts?

An old tube is indeed a good tool for the job. Spray an electrical cleaner (deoxit is great, but radioshack stuff would suffice) on the pins of the old tube, dabbing off most of the excess. Take this tube, and gently work it in and out of the tube socket a few times. Wipe any junk that comes...
