How much of a wuss does this make me?

Get better  kidding. I'm not a super-clean player, but yeah, the RA is not exactly a cuddle bunny. Are you playing through a cab with V30s in it? I *really* don't think that's a good match. Other thing is that the attenuator does provide a fair bit of compression and I think the amp...

    RA-100 - your favorite od/boost-pedals?

Electro-Harmonix LPB-1. Seriously. Best $40 you'll ever spend. I love this pedal on Marshall-voiced upper-midsy amps. Hitting the blue channel with this at about 2 o'clockgives you this huge grindy, grainy, clanky turned-up-way-loud sound-- as much gain as the red channel but much less well-behaved.

    Best cab for RA-100?

I think V30s are a really bad match for the blue channel especially, the last thing it needs is a lift in the upper mids and the bottom end can't get tighter than it is already. I have tried mine through a Recto 2x12 with V30s and it really did not work, and by anyone's standards that's a very...

Different Mark 3 models, which is best/worst? -Possible mods

I have a green and kind of regret getting rid of my purple stripe. The biggest difference between any Mark IIIs is that the R2 channel on the black/no-stripe and purple is quite a bit lower-gain than on the later ones. However, it has a fuller sound with more bass than the later R2s and takes...

adding reverb to one that has none?

The mark iii's reverb is nothing to write home about anyway. Pretty much any modern reverb pedal sounds just as good and is more versatile.

How loud do you set your Mark's for a gig?

Dunno how much these settings mean without knowing what cab you are playing through. I have my green stripe master at 2.5ish and lead master around 7, but that is through a 4x12 with EVMs and RWBs. So I'm gonna be a wee bit louder than someone playing the combo :)

Is Mesa striking out in their Brit tone quest?

Okay, how many years have you guys been gearheads and you haven't yet realised that mass market amp sales make no sense whatsoever through this kind of lens? Biggest factor in the industry is that the economy is in the tank, especially for "aspirational" guys. The fragmentation and...

RA100 head. New Amp Day. Notice hiss/static

I can probably beat $800, I have this Nigerian thing that's about to come through huge for me, I just sent them my bank acc't number and it's a done deal.

    SOB

I had an acquaintance who was trying to sell a combo in better shape than that and he couldn't get $400 for it. The big thing is that SOBs don't really have a very good reputation for tone (not gonna comment on whether or not that's deserved.)

    Another New RA owner!

that guy's demos are actually what sold me on the RA-- I really don't think the Hagerty's ones do it justice.

Strat-type n00b looking for upgrade advice

Hey all-- I have a Yamaha Pacifica that I really like the feel and response of. It's not my go-to guitar at all but I like it for a change of pace and I am starting to find times to use it. I'd like to upgrade the neck and middle single-coils to something a little hotter and with a bit more...

Funny youtube comment (rectos don't have a choke)

this might be a good time to bring up the whole "argument on the internet/special olympics" thing.

    Mark lll reverb mod ?

Oh, yeah, sorry, didn't notice that you don't even have reverb. And it wasn't even 4:20 yet. Yeah, it would be cheaper to just sell the Mark III wou have and buy a reverb version, and and not worth the trouble because the reverb isn't very good anyway.
  14. C

    Mark lll reverb mod ?

the reverb mod is dead easy but also not really worth doing unless you only play clean or low-gain stuff most of the time. Had it done and after that noticed that the reverb is "eh" at best, and now there's more of it, so I just have it on 0 all the time.

RA-100. Can the brightness be tamed ?

Using the attenuator pulls out some brightness. I am pretty sure the amp is voiced with the attenuator in mind. If I do not have it engaged I usually have to dial the treble below noon or back down the tone on my guitar a bit. I'd also say that LO is very definitely meant to be used in a mix...

    RA-100 Disappointed - severely

Compared to a Mark III I find the HI channel pretty spongy and forgiving! The Clean channel tolerates no sloppiness, though. Still, man, like I said in the other thread I have never really had a volume issue with the RA. If you don't use the attenuator, yeah, it's a 100W amp and the settings in...

Is the Royal Atlantic capable of metal?

fdesalvo, how quiet do you need your amp to be, man? I actually have the opposite problem with the RA-- if I dial in a "modern high-gain sound" on the red channel, meaning a bit of a scoop and mainly preamp gain with little power tube breakup, I find the amp isn't loud *enough* for a moderately...

    Sick of my EVM-12L's

I have 2xEVM-12L and 2x Emi RWBs in my 4x12 Recto slant for hard rock/metal with a Mark III and an RA. I find this livens up the EVM sound a lot without losing the essential characteristics of big headroom, detail, and good response at all frequencies.

How do the TA15 and TA30 compare to the RA100 ?

+1 on the RA being closer to a JCM800 voicing. I wouldn't say the RA is a "modern" voicing unless you think 1983 is modern.

    Mark III Advice

You won't regret the =C='s. I would start in the middle with average, it's hard enough to get a "clean clean" sometimes.
