Wrapping my head around the infamous 105-PT

Do like the way your Mark lll sounds now? If yes then maybe start with the R2 mod and some good tubes. I let you know how my 105 Mark lll+ sound when I pick it up this weekend.

Optimizing my '85 Black Stripe w. 105 PT

The bright reduction mod makes the amp like a 100 watt c+. My simul c+’s are really bright which makes the cleans very detailed but can make the overdrive grainy. My Mark lll with the 105 was a beast before I sent it to Mesa. It was a lot tighter and more aggressive than any of my c+’s. I almost...

Optimizing my '85 Black Stripe w. 105 PT

I had Mike B. reduce the brightness on the Mark lll’s like the HR c+’s. Before the mod I set the presence at 0-2. Now I can set it at 5-6. I use Chinese Military Beijing 12ax7’s in all of my Mesa’s and Sovtek 5881’s in all of my simul amps and most of my c+’s. This tube combination along with an...

Optimizing my '85 Black Stripe w. 105 PT

I recently had Mike B. do the lll+ to my Mark lll Black Stripe with the x101 transformer. The lll+ mod is $200 paid directly to Mike B. and includes the R2 mod. New caps, pilot light, service and return shipping was $336. Shipping from Chicago to Petaluma was around $140. I also have a Mark lll...

Is anyone has the operation manual for mark iic+?

When I ordered my first c+ in 1984 all I got was a couple of sheets of paper with the same info that you can get on Mesa’s site. I still have them, the receipt and a letter thanking me for my order with Randall Smith’s signature.

NAD: MKIII No Stripe/Black Dot DRGX. This thing is great!

    Sorry, I meant Purple Stripe.

NAD: MKIII No Stripe/Black Dot DRGX. This thing is great!

Mike B. told me the x meant is was made right before the Purple Stripe came out. I don’t about any circuit mods. I spent some time last night with my lll+ Black Stripe that Mike B. upgraded recently and it just sounds so good. I can’t wait to get my Black Dot back that Mike B. is working on now.

    NAD Mark III blue stripe

Nice! My Black Dot should get to Mesa tomorrow. It’s getting the lll+ mod and service. One day I’ll figure out how to post pics.

    NAD Mark III blue stripe

The amp look’s good! I agree an amp only sounds as good at it looks. That’s why I had Mike B. replace the blue pilot light on my lll+ with a red one. The red light sounds much better. :) When someone asks me how many amps or guitars do I really need I know it’s time to buy another amp or guitar...

    88 MARK III

I’ve shipped 4 amps to Mesa without any problems, the 5th should get there tomorrow, but I’ve had 3 amps damaged on their way to me from other people due to bad packaging. Mesa always ships my amps back in one of their boxes and packaging no matter how good I pack it. I would send it to Mesa and...

Mark III to Mark II mod

The Black Dot is on it’s way to Mesa for lll+ mod and service. I almost wanted to keep it stock. It’s a very fast and aggressive amp. Mike B. said it should still be more aggressive than the Black Stripe lll+ because of the 105 transformer.

1994 Dual Rectifier Rev G Original Tubes

Thanks. I was talking to Mike B. yesterday about modding another Mark lll and asked him about the Dual Rec. I told him it had Mesa 7025 labeled 12ax7’s which I could tell are the Chinese military tubes, my favorite 12ax7. He said those were the stock tubes back then in the Dual Rec, Mark lll and...

    Mark III R2

I have to agree. I can spend all day on R2. Sounds great with a Les Paul and a 4x12. I recently bought a couple Mark lll’s. I sent the first one to Mesa for the lll+ mod which included the R2 mod. I talked to Mike B. today about modding the second one. I also just picked up a Dual Rec. Diming...

1994 Dual Rectifier Rev G Original Tubes

I just bought a 1994 Dual Rec Rev G, serial # R-00335x. Does anybody know what tubes Mesa was using back then?

    Mark III schematic

I just had Mike B. do the lll+ mod to my Mark lll DRG with an x101 transformer. The amp sounds and feels awesome. I consider it a 3 channel c+. I’m not going to argue with anyone whether it’s a c+ or not. It’s close enough that I don’t think I would miss my c+’s if I didn’t have them.

Mark III to Mark II mod

The Mark lll+ is back home and it sounds fantastic. Everything about the amp is improved. It’s quieter and smoother. The reverb is better. The touch response is awesome and the R2 mod makes it the perfect amp for me. I had Mike B. reduce the brightness so now I can set the presence at 5 or 6...

Mark III to Mark II mod

My simul c+’s are brighter than my HR’s. Mike B. is going to reduce the brightness on the Black Stripe so it will be the same as the HR’s.

    Mark IIC+ Refurb success story

I would say the new tube in v1 had the biggest impact on the tone but it is probably like you said, a combo of everything that was done. The two Mark llc’s that Mike B. upgraded for me sound fantastic. I have a Mark lll DRG Black Stripe on it’s way to Mesa for the lll+ and R2 mods and anything...

Mark III to Mark II mod

The Stripe is #1555x, the Dot 1523x. If I like how the Stripe turns out I’ll send the Dot back to Mesa. I’ll send pics of the boards when I can. I can also send pics of my 1988 Carvin x100a. Maybe you can come with a conversion for it too. :)
