I have a hard time resisting buying an amp if the price is right. The Mark lll HRG I just bought was $950 with a road case, EV speaker and the 105 transformer. I had to drive almost 500 miles round trip to pick it up. Never thought I would have this much stuff. All I wanted was another c+ HR combo.

Does your Mark lll have the R2 and lll+ mods? I recently got my lll+ SRG back from Mesa and is sounds fantastic. I put in NOS Chinese military 12ax7’s and STR-415’s on Saturday and it just rips. I agree with you on R2. It’s the reason I bought my Mark lll’s.

Got the SRG lll+ back from Mesa. The amp sounds and feels fantastic. It’s not as bass heavy as the DRG’s. I had Mike B. install the R2 knob on the underside of the chassis so I could keep the Direct Out. With an MC-90 speaker it’s just light enough to be a grab and combo.

I haven’t had much luck. I’ve blown too many fuses and redplated too many 6L6’s without warning.

Shipping from Chicago to Mesa is around $150. Service and shipping back from Mesa is usually around $350 for me.

You’re wecome. I was going to suggest sending your new c+ to Mesa. My Mark lll SRG Black Stripe is at Mesa now for service and the lll+/R2 mods. I have an HRG upgraded c+ on the way. When I get the SRG back I’m thinking about sending the HRG in for the ++ mod and service.

Since the amp you bought has been sitting for a long time you might want to have a tech look at it. I would use EL34’s in the outer sockets or a quad of Mesa 425’s/Sovtek 5881’s. Mike B. told me the only 6L6’s you can safely use in a Simul c+ was a quad of red Mesa 425’s.

On the short chassis with the GEQ the switch is on the back next to the heat sink. The simul class amps originally shipped with a quad of 415’s.

I don’t have a 60 watt c+ but I liked my Mark lll SRG Black Stripe so much that I sent it to Mesa for service and the lll+ mod. Have you tried replacing the Phase Inverter, which is V5. When they fail it produces the same symptoms your amps have. I had 2 fail recently in my Mark lll’s. Hope this helps.

The lll+ mod is fantastic. I’m going to send my Mark lll SRG Black Stripe back to Mesa for the lll+/R2 mods.

I bought another c+ off a forum member on Saturday. I took the lll+ with the 105 transformer so he could check it out. He agreed with me that it’s really close to a c+. I’ve got a Mark lll SRG Black Stripe on the way. If I like it I’m going to send it to Mesa for the lll+ mod.

My lll+’s are not harsh sounding at all. I had Mike B. reduce the brightness when he did the lll+ mods. The lll+ 105 is smoother than the lll+ x101 but both are awesome amps. I let another forum member try the lll+ 105 yesterday and he agreed it’s really close to a c+.
