The MS-12 is my favorite. It's smooth and thick but might be too warm for some players. It pairs nicely with an EV in a 2x12 or 4x12. Warms up the sterile sound of the EV's. Another speaker I really like is the Celestion Redback. Sounds great in a 1x12 combo or 4x12.
The sweetest c+ for leads that I own is probably my DR with the reduced brightness. The extra brightness does make the cleans more detailed. It also helps when using a 1x12 extension cab with a combo. A reduced brightness c+ can sound dull to my ears when using both of the 4 ohm jacks.
The HR is just getting serviced and the upgrade. I have an upgraded HRG c+ on the way to Mesa for service and the switchable ++ mod. Can't wait to get that one back.
It's another HR. My HR upgrade with the Pull Deep faceplate is serial number 1186x. The HR at Mesa with the Gain Boost faceplate is serial number 1113x.
It's probably a IIc. It has Pull Deep on the faceplate but it doesn't look like a plus over the power cord. My upgraded HR c+ has Pull Deep. Only way to know for sure is the serial number and loop test.
415's do sound heavenly! Modern production tubes are good but 415's are in a league of their own. In a c+ or 3+ it doesn't get any better than 415's and Chinese Military 12ax7's.
I like my Mark 3+ cleans better than my c+ cleans. They seem to be a little punchier, more defined. Especially with STR-415's and Mesa 7025/NOS Chinese Military 12ax7's. Those are the only tubes you should really use in a c+\3+. New production tubes just don't do the amps justice. But the best...
Sorry to hear about your amp. Hopefully the damage will be covered by insurance. I would ship the chassis to Mesa and have Mike B. do the repairs and service.
I just bought a Mark IIc combo for a great price because it wouldn't power up. Turns out the on/off toggle switch is bad and works intermittently. Got a new one on the way.
I had Mike B. install a pentode/triode switch on my 3+ Blue Stripe SRG. It drops the wattage down to around 15 watts and softens the attack. The 3+ mod makes the amp smoother and closer to a c+.
For the R2 mod Mike B. installs a volume pot for the Rhythm 2 channel. This gives you 3 usable channels. I had Mike install the pot on the underside of the chassis of my SRG's.
