    What's your fave speaker?

The RWB is very "smooth" and on its own you usually see it in D-styles, Fuchs, Carr, anything that has blackface DNA. I paired it with the EVMs to round off a little of the aggressive highs I get from my Mark III and the blue channel on my RA100, and warm up the 'plinky' cleans that I get from...

    What's your fave speaker?

Markedman, you found the secret sauce too - mixing EVM-12Ls with a less hi-fi speaker! Gives you a very versatile cab that really lets you hear the amp. My favourite cab is a Recto slant with a pair of EVMs and a pair of Emi RWBs, sounds good with literally everything I've played through it.

212 recto cab V30 speaker mix

I've got an old Avatar very oversixed 2x12 (pretty close to an Orange in size) that has a V30 and an Eminence Swamp Thang. It works really nice with my Mark III or RA. The goal there was to try to tame the brightness of both amps a little without losing the clarity. Neither amp will go flubby...

Problems with your Mark V...it's you.

I remember someone saying "The Royal Atlantic isn't just unforgiving, it will walk offstage into the audience and tell your girlfriend that you suck." The green and blue channels, man, playing my Tremoverb feels like a vacation after that... sorry for the non-Mark V content

    Favorite Overdrive/Distortion pedal

Picked up a Maxon OD-808X a few weeks ago and I REALLY like it for my Tremoverb for high-gain stuff. Also sounds great on my JCM800. Not what you use to dirty up a clean channel though. Really good example vid here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ8zN2nf_9E

    Mesa Amp Opinions Needed

TBH you're really talking about Marshall or Orange tones on most of those. Any reason you're not buying used? For most of the amps listed below plus a new Mesa 2x12 you could get yourself a used 2x12 and a used Marshall DSL50 head AND a used 2ch Dual Rec head and be way better off.

Why can't I see posts or responses by APEMAN?

I believe that there was some drama and APEMAN decided to take his toys and go home...

Mark IIC+ vs VH4 vs Bogner Uberschall

that's a nice problem to have hahaha You the only one doing guitar tracks? If so, based on that video I'd say the Diezel for riffing because it's got that dry, clear, "full range" kinda sound that you can double up easily , leaves more room for the vocals, and is more tweakable when you get to...

    I bought 3, yes 3 now, pre amps & 2 power amps!

The Rec Pre is underrated, especially for what it goes for. There's loads of great tones in there, like all Rectos sometimes it's good to just pick a channel, set all the knobs to 12, and just see what you can find. Rectos are always more versatile than you think!

    IM A PICKUP NOOB HELP!

Hey man, can I make a suggestion since it sounds like you're kinda starting out? Honestly, if you're playing more modern (like, after 1985) heavy stuff, start with a set of EMGs. Really. For high gain (as opposed to blues or jazz or classic rock where you never get past "crunchy"), pickups are...

MkIIB or MkIII for an old guy?

Mark III and a USA Jackson, that's what I'm talkin' about!

MkIIB or MkIII for an old guy?

Mark III purple is a really good choice. I've had a number of Mark IIIs and the purple is the one I want back. Mark IIIs are terrific rock amps and can get you almost any 70s or 80s tones that didn't come out of a Hiwatt. They're a thrill to play, tons of gain and saturation on tap if you want...

    Advice sought re downsizing

I voted "no" just because I don't think the V:35 should be your only option. There's sooooo many good low-wattage amps out there that the V:35 is not that special. Not that it's bad, it's just not as great as other Mesas I've played and you're kinda spoiled for choice in the 40W and below...

    Can Boogies be addictive?

Life's too short to play ****** amps and that bank balance ain't comin' with ya... Seriously though the best thing about Mesas is that they're all versatile. Okay, except Mark IIIs. Every Mesa I have ever owned has had at least five good tricks, some of them that get me playing in ways I...

Attenuator recommendations for a Mark II

What? I can't hear you guys! Just gotta say though, I have played a Mark V:35 a few times and I found it kinda neither/nor, and the two guys I know who've owned them flipped out pretty quick. The power section just can't quite cash the checks the preamp writes. At gig volumes it sounds like...

Attenuator recommendations for a Mark II

I use a Two Notes Torpedo Live with my simulclass Mark III and it works very well. I've also run my 100W TOV head through it (which is an insanely loud, high-output amp on Bold and Silicon) with no issues.

    Rectoverb 50 s2 6L6 to EL34 questions

Any Mesa EL34s will work. Yes, it'll change the sound a fair bit, especially if you play at real volume. I'm gonna oversimplify here and say that in a Recto, EL34s give you more 'aggression' and 'cut', and 6L6s give you clarity, "punch", and frequency range. My experience is that if you like...

Dumb question, but why does it feel like Recto's "Need" a boost or OD to sound best?

I don't find my Tremoverb head needs a boost. I play pretty loud (not that I have a choice with a 100W TOV head!) and I find that it tightens up at volume and I always need less gain than I think. I do use one sometimes for flavor, but I think the big thing is that people are trying to use too...

    Royal Atlantic Bliss

I just put a Swamp Thang in a 2x12 with a V30 for my Tremoverb and the Royal really likes it too. Gives Vintage Lo a little more balls if I'm trying to use both Vintage Lo and Vintage Hi at once. I find that I don't really like Lo until the gain's past 2 o'clock but I don't like Hi much past...
