Picked up this Mark III amp this week - red stripe DG

Depends, man. I tried various combinations of EVMs, V30s, C90s, Emi RWBs and Swamp Thangs. The speaker rabbit hole is bottomless. In the room I'm not picky, Mark III sounds like a Mark III. I have an oversized 2x12 with a V30 and a Swamp Thang that's just a good all-rounder. Recording I usually...

Picked up this Mark III amp this week - red stripe DG

Congrats man, I've had a lot of Mark IIIs and I'll never be without one. Endless good times in these amps. It's a rabbit hole, but I have had DRGs of each stripe except 'none' and the differences are sooooo minor. Purple R2 is very, very "Fendery" somehow, and that extra 15 watts or whatever...

Sunshine of your Love. Eq help

Yeah, this was back when EC was still using an SG. Like Sinner's Swing said, tone knob down, guitar volume all the way up. I know you said "no pedals" but an EH LPB-1 is actually good for this kind of thing. I would try Channel 2 Blues, again like SS said treble down, mids up (not sure if the...

Mark VII owners - how’s it going?

Certified repair places are definitely still a thing. My experience is that this is a case where if you have a choice between certified repair places, go with the "bigger" one, especially if it's actually a music store who has to maintain their relationship with Mesa. "Local amp guru" 8 times...

    Anybody used EMG passives?

Appreciate the info my man. Probably gonna stick with what I have rather than heading down a rabbit hole!

Single rectifiers, why no rectifier tube???

In France they call it a "Royale with reverb."

Single rectifiers, why no rectifier tube???

Ditto, and they're an incredible bargain on the used market. Best death metal amp ever. Also, they give up the goods at a totally reasonable rehearsal volume.

    Anybody used EMG passives?

Yah, I've got the EMG pots in there and everything already, that's why I wanted to stay with EMG... What did you think of the Revs? They're got decent reviews but $200 is more than I was looking to drop based on my previous experience with pickup changes.

    Anybody used EMG passives?

My Jackson has active EMGs in it right now and so it has the extremely convenient no-solder wiring harness. I want to try a set of passives in it, because it's had EMGs since I bought it, but not badly enough to sit down with a soldering iron. I'm not corksniffy about pickups, I just want to...

Odd Design Choices: Why is Mark IV Volume Pot so Sensitive?

I haven't played a Mark IV enough to say, but the Mark III has the same "problem"... when you have the Volume set at like 7.5 or higher. If you have the Volume down around 5, there's a lot more range available on the MV before you hit war loud. As well, on the Mark III, if I've got the Volume...

Rectoverb 50 6L6 tube and speaker discusson.

I'm sure someone's gonna say I have no ears but I don't find a huge difference between 6L6 brands in Rectos. The amps already have such characteristic high and low ends that the differences between tubes are kind of a wash, especially for the 50W ones. Preamp tubes, though, you can go nuts...

T verb help! Clean/orange channel has no volume/ does not work

Hey man - unfortunately it could be a range of things, including one issue that Mesa was still comping parts for as of a couple years ago. Definitely take it to a Mesa recommended tech, the Tverb has a lot going on under the hood. Good news is that amp repairs that don't involve transformers or...

    Mark III 12ax7 tube locations

Welcome, the Mark III is a great amp (I've owned five hahaha.) Regardless of what style you're into, here's some dialin tips: Treble = gain Mid past noon = also gain Bass: VERY rare that you'll want the bass past about 9 o'clock, though there's some interesting sounds to be had by giving it...

    Tremoverb

Nice, congrats. I had an Ampeg V4 and the tverb is in the same volume league. I don't think I'd own one if I didn't have a DI rig, the point where Red Modern sounds good is unmanageably loud for any place smaller than 500 seats (my house does not seat 500.) Would be interested in your thoughts...

Roadster - 6L6GC STR440 tube not perfectly seated in the socket ?

It's fine. If you just want it "in" for OCD sake just grab it (when it's cold) and give it a little wiggle and push down. You won't hurt anything, and you'll see that the tubes and sockets are actually pretty robust.
