Just got a Mark iii Drg bluestripe wondering if it needs a service.(pic)

Whether or not they are still doing mods seems to be day-to-day, best to call and ask. Warning, it's $$$. R2 volume is easy for any amp tech. They can tell you if it was serviced at MB, but could have been serviced elsewhere too and they won't have a record.

Randall Smith and Mesa Boogie Parting Ways??

he's what, like 79? any involvement he has is symbolic at this point anyway. fluff's just trying to get clicks now that the pandemic gear craze has slowed down.

    Chasing Tone

have been lucky enough for a few years now to do some recording with pro engineers on both mine and other ppl's projects, and some engineering of my own guitar tracks when working on a couple of records remotely. that was the first thing that changed my guitar life, I stopped caring what I...

New member from Htown; new (to me) Tremoverb on the way!

I think the frustration some people get with the tverb is that they don't realize that you have to turn it up seriously loud for good higher gain sounds. If you want to chug, the orange channel master needs to be 11:30 at least and/or red channel master needs to be at 9 (neither of them get...

New member from Htown; new (to me) Tremoverb on the way!

Hey @carmona , welcome! Tverb is a great amp, most days I think mine's going in the ground with me. It's probably the most versatile Recto except for the MWDR. Based on what you've said you're into, you won't be disappointed, 90s alt rock in a box plus so much more. Really does the full...

    New amps?

best suggestion I ever got regarding cabs and speakers as I stared into the bottomless expensive abyss was to just pick something that's widely used and generally accepted as good for the type of stuff you mainly play, and make everything else work around that. Pretend you're endorsed

    New amps?

@RWN wtf are you talking about?! Mesa has put out at least five new amps in the past ten years (Fillmore, Cali Tweed, Badlander, TC, and Mark VII off the top of my head) If you want a slimmed-down Recto go grab a Single. They are very reasonably priced used, verging on undervalued, and sound...

    Boogie garage amp ?

anybody here who says they have a ballpark is bs'ing you, call mesa and verify first. if it really is a modden princeton or a proto or something it may have been modded or restored since because no one in the 70s or 80s was thinking about collectible value. you should probably ask at TGP...

Call Mesa directly, they can definitely help you on verification.

Tremoverb head tone differences: How much variance?

@beedoola you should just try swapping all the tubes over from the "better" one into the "worse" one and see if they sound the same, then you'll know. edit: nvm you said they're both heads

Tremoverb head tone differences: How much variance?

Preamp tubes make a big difference in Rectos in general, and RoVs and ToVs most of all because there's a bigger sweep of medium gain before you get into serious saturation. You have a chance to actually hear the character of the tube in V1 or V2 instead of just how much gain it has. ToVs also...

Mark 3 simul-class for sale question

It's probably the nicest III I've ever seen for sale, the question is how many people out there are willing to drop >$3500 on a non-artist-owned III no matter how nice it is. Reverb's definitely your best bet.

Mark 3 simul-class for sale question

^^^this, the mark iii is a great amp but it's not really iconic in any way, the collector appeal is really limited. prices got dragged up by the c+ hype but I'm willing to bet that less than ten mark iii's have actually changed hands for >$3K

Mark 3 simul-class for sale question

Put your amp on Reverb. You're way more likely to get an impulse buyer or collector there. Most people here already have any Mesa they'd be willing to pay that kind of money for.

Suhr RL: too scooped and boomy, which RL next?

That's a pretty tall order tbh. I was trying to do the same thing a few years ago and it led me to just give up on mic'ing cabs myself or capturing my own IRs. A couple good commercial IRs for cabs that I know I like to record with and I know how to EQ gave me consistent results for like 1/8 the...

Suhr RL: too scooped and boomy, which RL next?

Never use what you hear in the room as a reference when you're recording, even when you're mic'ing amps. Only what's in your monitors or your cans. This is your core problem, not that the load box isn't transparent enough. Re-amping is a good solution because allows the guitarist to play with a...

    New Badlander Issue

amps, cars, guitars, hardware controllers.... good rule of thumb on anything is if something breaks, it's probably your mod. no offense meant to legendary tones, I'm speaking more from experience in aftermarket motorsports stuff, but smaller shops are often limited to testing things to see if...

A good ol' Mark IV rackmount conversion thread

don't do it man. racks are so rarely worth it. I too tried it because it seemed cool, and it was such a waste of time and money. the only reason you want a tube based rack is if you already have a full studio setup with well ventilated 19" racks and patch bays everywhere, or you're regularly...
