    Alternate Speakers for Royal Atlantic

I have 2 EVM-12s and 2 Eminence RWBs in an X in my 4x12. Works well with both my Mark III and my RA-100 heads. The RWB is a 70s Southern-flavoured speaker and is a little gritty, fuzzy, and smooths out the upper mids and highs as you get louder. The EVMs are, as always, very hi-fi, punchy and...

Do Tubes Make that much of a Difference

I can definitely say that EL34s are a great choice in a Roadster if you're playing at big-boy volume and on the crunchier or heavier side of things. Passive pickups with sensible output levels into a Roadster with EL34s on CH3 vintage and a little boost kick in the input jack is an awesome...

    FS: Short head rackmount kit

I could but shipping's going to be pretty crazy, are you still interested if it comes out in the US$120 range?

    Was going to buy RA-100

There's nothing out there quite like the RA in terms of all-this-in-one-box tonal palette even if it's not perfect in an engineering sense (they have included a reverb and an fx loop which don't work very well.) If you are a good technical player who's seriously picky about tone and leans...

Video: RA-100 w/ Celestion Creamback & Rode NTR Ribbon

Definitely your best-recorded guitar tone yet! And you guys really put a ****-ton of effort into the songs, the composition's always great though I think I bitched about the bass playing before: "How do you tell if there's a bass player at your door?" "He's knocking too much." Can't say I like...

    TA-15/30 RA 100 DISCONTINUED

I love my RA, but I can see why they cancelled it. Mesa's already got several Swiss Army knife amps, and the RA doesn't look like one from the front but it's actually complicated as ****. The RA's big selling point was Multi-Soak, which I don't think they ever really got around to explaining...

    RA-100 w/ Suhr guitar - live video - thoughts?

This is great, man. Gotta say - I like hearing some guys who aren't afraid to ******* *sing*. I am loving the vocals, like the compositions a lot. You're playing some really nice stuff and your drummer's just killing it all through both tracks. Bassist needs to calm down a little on "Anselmo"...

    Music Man Amps

Ah, okay, that makes sense. It was definitely 4x6CA7s kinda loud. I don't think I ever heard the actual tone of the amp because he ran so many pedals, but it sure worked good for that.

    Music Man Amps

A friend of mine had a probably late-70s 2x12 Music Man combo that was just mind-alteringly loud and clean, and this coming from a guy who owned an Ampeg V4. He was using it as a pedal platform and could hang with the JCM800 I was using at the time  It seemed far louder than a SS power...

High gain preamp tubes on markiii

This is not an opinion everyone shares but I would kick in that tube changes make *less* of a difference on the Mark III than any other amp I've rolled a lot of tubes through (Roadster, RA, JCM800, Ampeg V4). Not saying it makes no difference, it does, just not much. I definitely would not...

Does anyone else think the Royal Atlantic is small sounding?

My experience is that if you are using the RA with the soak off you need to crank it pretty hard to get a lively tone. The un-soaked RA is a LOUD and very bright amp. The soak's not just there for volume control, it's a tonal tool that lets you control those loud/bright characterstics. Vintage...

1989 Mark III Green Stripe Noise

Changing tubes is kind of cost of doing business when you buy a used amp. You really shouldn't look for other problems until you have swapped all the power tubes, and then gotten at least one known good preamp tube to swap through all the positions.

So, Should I MOd My Mark III?

R2 mod is a fo sho, must have. The reverb mod is easy enough but I would say don't do it. The Mark III's stock reverb is pretty average and the circuit is a bit of a hack that made sense in 1983. Basically you end up with more crappy reverb that you can never quite turn off. There's so many...

    delete: sold

That's pretty sexy. Is that the original tolex? I wish I could justify that, lol.

    mark III settings

Only thing I ever mess with is the pull deep, and if I am recording a clean part I turn the volume up to max from 7.5. That's it.

Need some advice about my MKiiC+

That's fair but I don't think someone who doesn't already have a IIC+ and is planning to actually play the thing would *not* pick up a 60W barebones upgrade instead of holding out for, like, a hardwood Coli (if such a thing even exists, which I doubt.) And even if you do find a loaded simul...

Need some advice about my MKiiC+

If it's a bare-bones upgrade from a IIC and really ****** up you probably won't get much more than $1400, because most guys who aren't scraping for cash would rather have a cosmetically nice amp and C+s aren't that rare on the market, they are just pricey. Decent shell you could go up to $2K if...

    Mesa Boogie Quality Control

Modern tube construction is just really bad, especially preamp tubes. It's easier to QC power tubes because with those kind of voltages stuff either works or it goes south real fast. I wouldn't hold Mesa responsible for tube flaws. I've had an RA, a Recto Pre, and a 20/20 that were all brand...

    VoodooMan Switches Updates And Beyond

So, I am willing to bet Freiboths Trading can be pretty sleazy too, seeing as how we have two sockpuppets who each registered, posted once in each voodooman thread to pump freiboths, and then disappeared. James is a liar who can't get his **** together but you should sell based on your product...
