Dialing In A Mesa Mark V

Thanks for the videos. Finally got around to watching it. I noticed you mentioned that changing one of the 5EQ sliders will change the frequency at which the other sliders operate. Are you sure about this and how is that electronically possible? Really enjoyed hearing the details of how you...

Mark V 90w signal too hot? Fx Loop issues?

Yes, this will help. To bring the channel masters down to around 9 to 11 o'clock will help. The channel master level is related to what level is sent to the loop. So, if those are up above 12 o'clock, the level being sent to the loop will be pretty high. Of course, if the loop is off and then...

Mark V 90w signal too hot? Fx Loop issues?

I think this is a known characteristic of the Mark V. The signal going to the FX loop can be too strong for some pedals. You can turn the channel masters down to reduce the FX send signal. The channel master level affects the signal strength to the FC loop. Also, you can adjust the dial on the...

Mark VII owners - how’s it going?

Good call! I still think the VII moniker it had something to do R. Smith turning 77 this year.

Mark VII owners - how’s it going?

The Mark VII combo looks interesting, if for no other reason because it is in stock at Sweetwater. 😀 How does the C90 speaker sound compared to a V30 in an open back? The TC-50 combo has a V30 and the Badlander 25 combo has a Creamback so I’m familiar with those. Honestly, I don’t mind those on...

    Mark v saturation mod

I have the V25 and never felt the need to try any tube rolling, the high gain channel sounds monstrous without being harsh. Not sure what the difference is between hi gain channels of V90 and V25 but there is a difference. The V90 is less smooth than the V25, at least to my ears. I’m still...

    Mark v saturation mod

I like the 12AT7 in the V4 position. Just takes a little of the "graininess" out of channel 3. Note: it reduces gain also, so you have to dial up gain a bit to compensate for slight saturation loss.

    Tell me about the TC100

I can only speak for the TC-50. Yeah, the TC-50 has higher gain on channel 3 than the Mark, at least to my ears (doesn’t matter EL34s or 6L6). I like the Mark V cleans and crunch better. The channel 3 is more focused on the V but smoother, less harsh on the TC-50. The TC-50 seems to have a wider...

Mark V Effects Loop Not Working

    Glad you got it working!

Mark V 25 Cab Clone Issue

I am not a fan of the cab clone on the V:25 when the speaker is off for silent headphone playing. Even Mesa recommends adding a delay or something in the loop to make is sound less crappy (they word it differently, but that's what they mean). When the speaker is on the cab clone is going to a...

Mark VII owners - how’s it going?

So, after a few weeks with the VII how are things? Is the amp still ‘all that’? Strengths? Weaknesses? Just curious to hear some updated opinions now that the dust has settled a bit! Thanks

    Mark V adjustable bias mod

Very interesting! So, do you still need a quad matched set of power tubes with this set up or can each pair of tubes be biased independently somehow?

Mark V Effects Loop Not Working

If you haven't already, connect a short cable directly from SEND to RETURN and see if it works? Set the rotary dial to ON ALL. If nothing then maybe try replacing the tubes which send/return to the loop. V6 is the RETURN, not sure which tube(s) is SEND.

    Bought a Mark VII!

Congrats on the NGD and glad it is working out for you. I’m not thanking you for your informative post because it, and Mark VII posts from other folks, will cost me dearly in the near future. What is this Volume 1 of which Mesa speaks?

Mark V:25 Makes A Clicking Sound

This could be a new innovation from Gibson Mesa, an amp with a built-in metronome. But it sounds more like an electrical problem with the relay or something. I’ve never experienced that kind of problem and I don’t remember reading about anything similar here.

Speaker for the Mesa Mark V: 35??? Any thoughts???

What speaker did you end up settling on?

    Awesome Tone at Lower Volume

OK, I did a bit of googling and found this crazy long thread on the Gear Page. The last page has a good video which I think sums up the situation pretty well. I found it hilarious that they upped the 1024x12 cab example to 5000x12 to 10,000x12. It seems if you want to get better sound at lower...

1024x12. Just a thought experiment. And something for the next KISS tour.

    Awesome Tone at Lower Volume

Anyone know what the theoretical max dB-m is for 1 W of power? In other words, what is 100% efficiency with no losses to heat, friction etc? It seems counterintuitive that a 1 W amp could be made infinitely loud by adding an infinite number of speakers. Moving air is a volume thing. So...

    Awesome Tone at Lower Volume

100% agree that a 4x12 cab sounds bigger and fuller than a 1x12 cab. And yeah, speaker ratings in watt are just max power capability. One thing about speakers is efficiency in converting the electrical energy to acoustical energy. This varies a bunch from speaker to speaker. For example, the...
