    Mark VII Channel volume differences

Check your PM for S/N of the amp I had.I did not register it for warranty. I’m curious if it is the same one! Regardless, it sounds like the amp found a good (loud) home.

    Buzzing on blue channel

Sounds abnormal. Do you have the buzz on rhe red channel? Red has a lot more gain than blue and should have a little more ‘hiss/buzz’ but not so much where you have to switch channels between songs. Might be a bad pre-amp tube in the Blue channel circuit that isn’t used in the other channels...

Mark Five Variac Power and EL34 Power Tubes

Thanks for the great info! What kind of music do you guys play (can you list any comparable bands?)?

No, I’m not. I’ll double check for sure!

Mark VII and onboard IR+ only 8 slots

Just for awareness if you are considering the VII, be aware that all three channels share the same 8 IR slots. As comparison, the Badlander is a two channel amp and each channel has it’s own 8 independent slots (so 16 slots total). I was assuming that the VII would also have 8 per channel, so...

    Mark V adjustable bias mod

For what’s it worth, when I do pre-amp tube rolling I use 10W mode and remove the two power tubes on the right (when viewed from the rear). I am able to swap pre-amp tunes while in stand-by mode and then power up right away. The Mesa guy I deal with said this will not harm the amp for trouble...

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

What a saga! Got the replacement combo on Thursday and it had shippng damage. The casters/footswitch crammed in the combo had impacted the tube cage. Taking the amp out of the bag the cage was dislodged (white plastic pegs stuck in cage and removed from amp chassis) and one power tube was broke...

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

Yeah, the packing job was a bit….ahh… tight. I had to remove a couple power tubes to get the foot pedal and casters out! I was also bummed there is no slipcover for the foot pedal. That kinda sucks, actually. Enjoy your new toy! I am really loving the ease of use of dialing in the VII...

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

Now that a replacement is secured I was going to reach out to Mesa and get their thoughts. But, the issue cannot be a pre-amp tube or any tube. Ch1 and Ch2 FAT and CRUNCH are identically wired. The fact that when Ch1 and Ch2 MASTERs are set the same and Ch1 blows my head off qand Ch2 is at a...

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

After a week or two I'll post some thoughts on the amp and modes. First impressions were great on the general tones of channels 2 and 3. I like to let things soak in a bit first before commenting.

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

Ends up Sweetwater will swap the VII out and they have a combo in stock for replacement. So, hopefully the second go around will bring more joy!

Mesa Boogie Mark V 25 with 10" speaker?

Short answer for me: small size and light weight. That's pretty much it for me. The amp has amazing portability. The combo without an extension cab is great to use "in a pinch" as a grab and go. I did gig with combo alone a few times and it does work well. But running a proper cab is always...

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

Thanks for that info. Good to know that the PRESENCE is wired different on the VII than on the V:90. The VII PRESENCE seems to have a much larger effect on tone than the V:90. To me, this is a good thing.

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

Well, I just did a direct comparison (quickly) to the V:90 using crunch with same dial settings (V:90 with LOOP bypass ON, reverb OFF, no EQ). So, only the MASTER's were active for setting channel volume, like the VII. The V:90 was definitely more like the VII volume on Ch2 and Ch3 for a given...

NAD: Mesa Boogie Mark VII head. WOW

Opted for the Mark VII combo and while I've never had a Black Shadow (always V30 or Creamback) so far I've really liked the combo as-is. Sounds nice and open yet tight and smooth.

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

Thanks for the replies. So, unplugged the speaker and ran the XLR CabClone out into the computer to measure the level difference of CRUNCH. IR 1 was used for all channels. The REVERB and LOOP were off. There is about 9 to 12 dB between Ch1 and Ch2 for the same settings. CH3 set to IIc+ is...

    Mark VII Channel volume differences

Well, I bit the bullet and picked up a Mark VII yesterday! After it a quick play through a couple things of note, which seem way different than other Marks I’ve used (use): 1) the PRESENCE knob does way more than on the V90 etc. It brings in mids and drive as well as the upper frequencies. It...

NAD: Mesa Boogie Mark VII head. WOW

Since when do we only buy things we need? LOL I’m also on the fence about the VII. I’m almost to the point of just getting one so I can stop thinking about it! If only it didn’t cost an arm and a leg…
