How long will it take for Mesa to come out with the VII:25 and VII:35? How about a JP2C combo?

Yeah, since the VII has seven modes they would have to leave one off. Not sure which would make sense. It seems IIB and VII modes would have to stay, since they are only available on the VII today. I would think the IIc mode is undroppable, as is CRUNCH. That would leave IV or CLEAN/FAT to be...

Mark VII - dang double gang - messed up FX levels

Yeah, that was mine. That issue (CRUNCH on channel 1 and 2 were radically different volumes when the dials were set the same) isn’t the same as this current topic. This current topic has to do with the FX LOOP and seems to be a design feature.

Ooooooo… is this the rumbling of a VII:25 in an EL84 10” combo format? o_O:ROFLMAO:

Mark VII - dang double gang - messed up FX levels

Appreciate the feedback and input (no puns intended!). It seems this issue is difficult to explain and I need to make some sound samples or video. Maybe my VII has a defect and other folks aren’t experiencing this issue. Best I can tell is that the Mark V:25 FX LOOP volume level behaves very...

    Thank You!

Thanks for the new subthread. Now, who’s gonna shuffle all the existing VII threads into here? :p

    Limited Edition JP~2C 1x12 Combo!!!

Awesome video, thanks so much for sharing it here!! Just curious, are you or is your channel supported by Mesa/Gibson? You have some great access to these icons!! I followed you since the days of your music theory DVD (great instructional video by the way ) and since you started your gear...

Welcome! Note: the 10W and 25W aren’t that much different in volume for bedroom levels, maybe 4-5 dB. The main difference IMHO is the slightly beefier sounding pentode 25W vs the slightly thinner 10W mode. The Mark V:25 is just a killer little amp - all modes sound really, really good.

Mark V and VII - high gain mode gain stage questions

Depends how you look at it. Got in some good practice time but spent money on these new tubes and they are still sitting untouched in the box! Someday I'll have to do some tube rolling, but it's been too much fun just playing guitar for now.

Mark V and VII - high gain mode gain stage questions

Got the 5751’s today. Went down, plugged into the VII and was playing around to calibrate my ears to the ‘as shipped’ tone. Eventually looked at the time and 2 hours had passed. So, I guess the 5751’s will have to wait! LOL. Dang Mark VII…

Mark V and VII - high gain mode gain stage questions

I went ahead and ordered some JJ 5751’s the other day to play with. The JAN one were too rich for my blood.

Mark V and VII - high gain mode gain stage questions

Thanks for the insights and 5751 recommendation. Since I have some JAN AT7's laying around I'm gonna give it a go! And yeah, I saw that other modes would be affected in the Mark VII V4 position (VII mode and IIB mode). But, I'm curious.

Mark V and VII - high gain mode gain stage questions

Hi all, So, in comparing the V:90 to the VII I'm noticing the VII is a more "gainier" in IIC+ and IV modes than the V:90 is. Then I remember that my V:90 has an AT7 tube in the V4 position, so that may explain the gain difference (although CRUNCH seems a tad more gainy and brighter in the VII...

It’s time for the Mark VII sub-forum, no?

Prolly the same reason the TC50 section is still called “TC50” and not “TC Series”. Assume the mods just haven’t gotten around to it yet. LOL Would it make sense to rename Mark V to “Mark V and VII”? Or just make a new section as you suggest.

Who is running EL34s in their V:90s?

Years back I burned up some EL-34s (from Mesa, not sure what type/color) pretty quick (less than a year) using FULL power. This was before the manual change to use VARIAC.

Mark VII - dang double gang - messed up FX levels

Just one more oddity I noticed when playing out last weekend. I had the FX LOOP on pretty much the whole time with a subtle delay. Well, when switching channels from 2 to 3 there was a very loud burst of sound. It ends up that the delay level in Ch 2 was fine but when switching to Ch 3 the delay...

    Mr Scary Mod

Cool that you got it to work out and are liking it. The Mr. Scary mod will also work in the little Rectoverb 25 but alas it won’t fit (per Dave at Legendary Tones).

Mark V briefly loses power, then comes right back on?

That worthless tech wasn’t in Indy, by chance?

    My first Mesa Amp

Gain can be run past 1 o’clock with no damage. I’ve never really used a boost portal in front either, but I do keep the bass and mids, especially bass, on the low side when in the distortion modes. I don’t remember seeing in the manual about max gain damaging the amp. Where did you see that...

Mark VII - dang double gang - messed up FX levels

Edit: the suggestion was to manage level changes with wattage settings. This sort of helped but wasn’t enough, especially not for CRUNCH. The LOOP level of CRUNCH is just way lower than the FAT. The 6 dB delta from 25 to 90 watts just isn’t enough to compensate. Yeah, using a distortion pedal...
