    Mark VII - Silent Practicing

There is absolutely no risk for damage with silent playing through headphones. There is no extra stress on the components and the amp will sound just the same later. No worries! I’ve used silent playing quite a bit (CCIR output) and all is well.

Need urgent help with Mk V

Going off memory here (been travelling a couple weeks) but for Santana (or a usable Mark I mode tone) I would try the o'clock settings: Bass off to 8, Mid 11-1, Treb 12 to 2, Gain 11 to 3, Presence noon or a bit higher. Leave the THICK switch off unless doing only lead lines, then engage it as...

    Mark VII combo weight?

Mark VII combo is heavy at about 60 lbs. it does come with casters. I tend to lug it around without casters.

    Mark V or VII

I thought I’d really miss the global OUTPUT control on the VII. I kind of miss it when playing out but not too much. Same with SOLO, although I miss that a little more than the lack of global OUTPUT. I’ve had to add a pedal in the loop for a volume boost.

    Badlander 50W Combo Tones

So, I'm curious... I had a BAD 25W combo (Creamback) for a while but never bonded with it. I have always really liked the BAD tones I've heard online. Doug or anyone, have you had a chance to go head to head with the BAD 25W and 50W and if so, are there major differences in tone and response?

Randall Smith and Mesa Boogie Parting Ways??

So, if one were to pick nits, Petrucci’s post states he was at a “celebration of Randall”. JP doesn’t mention anything about Randall retiring or leaving Gibson or leaving Mesa Boogie etc. Some ambiguity remains! LOL

    Bought a Mark VII!

Yeah, I do miss that master volume when playing live or even at practice. But, I know an Ernie Ball volume pedal in the LOOP works just fine for controlling the VII volume.

Randall Smith and Mesa Boogie Parting Ways??

Glad to hear about the the real story. And yeah, smh at the click baiters. Disappointing from the Fluff

Why Are Mark Vs So Expensive?

Yes, Doug West said in a Mark VII video that the master volume on the VII sucked the tone just a bit. They wanted to have as simple a signal path as possible and therefore didn’t include the master OUTPUT and SOLO on the VII.

Randall Smith and Mesa Boogie Parting Ways??

Agree 100% (of course I don’t know anything) that that first article was click bait. Curious if there is a health issue (none of our business) or just a planned exit or something else. If it was a ‘planned exit’ it does seem strange there has been no statement, interview or what not from the...

    Mark V 25w comparison to Studio 22+

I have gigged with the V:25 a few times and it punches through a hard rock/old school metal mix just fine. The Channel 1 MID control has a built in boost function which can really help with the punch. Noon on the MID dial is the typical max value. Noon to 5 o’clock provides the ability to dial...

Using JP2C Preamp with Simul-Class power amp?

I too find the VII to be brighter than my other Marks (V:90 and V:25). I came across a video from Mesa with Doug West going over the VII and noticed he was running Channel 3 presence at 9 o’clock. So, this convinced me it wasn’t just me that finds it bright. I did purchase some 5751 tubes I was...

    Hello from Pops

Welcome to the forum! I love the Recto 25 head as a grab and go. So versatile and so huge sounding.

    New amps?

The TC-50 as well as the Badlander take 6L6’s also. But yeah, the Bandlander lacks the Master Output. But the TC-50 with 6L6’s might be worth a try. That’s how I mostly run mine (although I’ve been running 6V6’s for a while for kicks).

Mark Five head and 4X12 cab switchable 16 ohm or 4 ohm

Running a 16 ohm cab on the 8 ohm tap, or running an 8 ohm cab on the 4 ohm tap will not harm the amp. Mesa lists these scenarios as ‘safe mismatches’. In fact, in the Mark VII manual they encourage using a 8 ohm cab or speaker with the 4 ohm tap for a variation in the tone.

Question: Does your Mark VII do this?

Hey all. Question: when switching the mini-toggle between IIb and IIc modes is there a significant change in volume? Is there a change in volume between IIc and IV modes? On mine IIb is much louder than the other two and I was curious if this is normal. Thanks!

Mark Five head and 4X12 cab switchable 16 ohm or 4 ohm

Well, since what sounds best doesn’t seem to matter, I’d match 4 ohm to 4 ohm. Ohm sweet ohm.

Mesa Mark VII Simul-Class 90 vs 45 watt?

45W is class A pentode. 25W is class A triode. Page 10 in the manual.
