Personally my favorite are the JJ STR445s. Whatever 6L6 you get, you'll want "grey" for the middle pair & "yellow" for the outer pair if you like hotter running tubes. If you prefer EL34 in the outer pair, then "grey".

Of course you are, good luck with that! No Mark III, with the exception of a black stripe with the PT105 which gets pretty close but not quite, can do what any IIC+ does. I have plenty of vids comparing all of these.

Those leads were crimped, super common failure mode. When they go in for service you have have them soldered.

The best for this was my SR followed closely by the DR. IOW, the ones without the G. The sustain & harmonics were EPIC. At this point I'd rather have a no-EQ & run a parametric EQ in the loop when needed. Best of both.

What are your settings? What preamp board is in your IIB? All Marks have variable honk amp-to-amp, IMO that's what differentiates the good ones from the bad ones. My IIB LM has the least honk of any Mark I've ever played.

MkIII R2 with a mild boost is a legit tone. BUT, I will fight you, "No MESA has a better crunch tone than a Mark IIB".
