MESA BOOGIE POWER TUBES NOT MATCHED AT ALL !

I've tested hundreds of Mesa power tubes. Most are well matched but not OCD matched. Some are pretty off base so I still always test them. Ideal for me with 6L6, very generally speaking, is around 35 mA. So, 30 is good. Since we don't have bias pots I prefer to set up Mesas up with tubes that...

    Mark VII?

No, I've had two JP and neither stuck around very long. They don't do what I need a Mark to do. Plenty of other guys are posting videos of the VII vs. the JP. I'm going to focus on comparos of the VII vs the OGs that it's trying to emulate.

Would someone have a picture of a Mark II Coliseum's reverb hookup?

Right, someone just marked W & G for white & grey on mine. Mark, I believe the extra jack on yours is not stock. I'd get some pics & check with Mike B. at Mesa to see if that might be something he added for a customer. Also, if you can pass my owner's group along to the owner we'd appreciate...

New Cali-Tweed 4:40 head owner looking for speaker recco's

The Jensen Blackbird (40 or 100) that comes in the combo is fantastic with that amp. I'd just get a CT 112 cab with one in it & call it done.

Would someone have a picture of a Mark II Coliseum's reverb hookup?

Hi Mark, Stock there are two RCA jacks in all Mesas for the reverb. The one towards the rear of the chassis will be the single wire & the one towards the front of the chassis will be the shielded wire. On the MKIIs there are also a pair of 1/4" jacks that can be configured for various things...

    Mark VII?

I just ordered a VII, and my plan is to do a comparo shootout against my OG Mark IIB, IIC+ and IV. (y)

Metallica tone : Mesa Mark into Strategy 400

Personally, even recorded, I have a feeling (having had them all) that the big power amp is required to get that AJFA tone. It would be slave out, not FX send, for best tone.

    Mark VII?

I can confirm that the baby Mark Fives also have the GEQ BEOFERE the FX Loop

What Mesa has the best cleans?

The Blue Angel & the Cali Tweed both have cleans to die for, each in a different way.

Mark II with and without EQ, are they voiced differently?

It's not an intentional voicing change, it's simply amp-to-amp variance & aging of components. In the IIs and IIIs if you play either a no-EQ amp or an amp with the EQ off, the majority of them have an obnoxious mid honk that's hard to dial out however there are some of them that sound killer...

Putting together a Mark III Guide

In the last year or so I've seen them sell in the $1800-$2500 range depending on condition, service history, III+ mod, etc..

Putting together a Mark III Guide

So here's something new to consider. I just acquired this amp, and I can find zero references to the CP1H. Ever heard of it? This is my 8th Mark III and I have to say this one has some feels that the others didn't have, save for maybe the early no stripe III+ SG. - Blue stripe s/n 2837X, dated...

    mark 3 serial numbers

Just picked up another MkIII, and it may be the latest production one anyone here has ever seen. - Blue stripe SRG combo, S/N 2837x, dated 7/99. The cap dates & speaker date all check out. Checking my old photos against your S/N list I only had one other outlier: - Red stripe DRG long head, S/N...

Mesa Color Code Plate Current Values (420 vs 440)

Red - coldest Yellow Green Gray Blue White - hottest Some people don't care what their bias is, and some do. If you do, I'd recommend testing your amp. While Mesas are fairly consistent I have owned & tested enough of them to see amp to amp variance that is concerning if you're going for a...

Mesa Color Code Plate Current Values (420 vs 440)

Mesa's color codes are all the same test range for any 6L6 they sell. They probably tested tired tubes when they made this determination. BLU is as hot as it gets now, IIRC they no longer do white. In my testing BLU is pretty hot in most Mesa A/B slots and unsafe in a Class A slot (where you...

    Mark III+ EQ question

I would recommend looking into Parametrics before graphics. Especially before the Mesa pedal- tonally it's just not that good and clips easy. FWIW.

Dual Rectifier MW mod to 2ch sound

The MultiWatt modern tone is voiced like the 2 channel Rev F, so there is no need to mod it. Have you tried running various boost pedals in front yet? That's how Rectos get their heavy sounds. Boost + amp + sealed V30 cab is a well proven combination.

    IIc+ (RP10/SP10) vs. IIb (RP9C/SP9C)

Here's what I did. a) but the chassis in a box. b) Send it to Mike B. c) Pay the man for his expert work. :) Keep in mind that even with the RP9C, the non-Coliseum IIBs aren't quite as tight in the ***. The IIB Colis are the most beastly amps Mesa ever created, I believe due to having no...

    Re-tube JP2C, which ones?

I put this JP2C tube test together if you're interested.

    IIc+ (RP10/SP10) vs. IIb (RP9C/SP9C)

The 60s are super pissed off, possibly my favorite tone of all the power sections. A loop modded RP9C is a fantastic thing, for rhythm there are things I like about it more than the IIC+.
