Replacing valves on a mark III blue stripe , what colour valves to replace?

On the SIMUL amps the OUTER Class A pair is biased a lot hotter. Assuming we're talking 6L6 you're always safe with RED there and in some amps YEL may fly as well. The rest are getting too hot. If however you want EL34 in the Class A slots, GRN or maybe even GRY should be alright. On the...

Best 1x12 cab for Mark V:25 (metal)

I've owned them all. For metal where you need a sealed cab, in my opinion, the clear winner is the cube-shaped Recto 1x12. (NOT the Mini Recto). It's the most balanced cab that 's smaller than a 4x12.

    Sold / Withdrawn 1999 Mark III+

*SOLD elsewhere* is a very clean 1999 Mesa Boogie Mark III+ blue stripe SRG combo amp. From the serial number it was one of the last III ever produced. Earlier this year Mike B. gave the amp a discretionary service and did the III+, R2 volume mod & reverb mods. Amp is quiet & 100% functional...

Mark V:35 on Thiele 1x12 EVM12L not saturating like I want–is it a speaker problem?

EVs are super sterile and boring, IMO. On the Five 35 & the JP, they're very 2D until you really dime the presence. On the 25 & 35 you can compensate by dumping the treble, then balance with 6600. This will really open it up and make it more 3D.

    Dual Rec volume drop question

It's really a pair of 8 ohm taps. Even though it can handle a 16 ohm load it always made my OCD twitch that they labeled it that way.

Suggestions for a Mesa amp for mid heavy sound

100W Badlander. I did not get the matching cab, all my cabs are 2000-2003 V30 loaded Traditional Straight Recto 4x12s and they fit the bill. Life got a lot better after I 86'd all the 2005 & newer V30s. Here's a quick clip.

    Bought a Mark VII!

For the Baby Fives, (I don't recall on the big V), JP2C, and MkVII, in order to get it to open up & bloom you have to crank the presence & compensate with 6600. Otherwise they're 2D & flat compared to the MKII, III and IV. Although, presence down does help to get a bedroom volume. On the OGs...

    Bought a Mark VII!

The JP is MUCH better live. While the OG smokes it in the bedroom & studio, live the JP is a very solid choice IMO.

    Bought a Mark VII!

Not ALL respects. While the VII definitely does some great things and excels for home use it's not perfect. The attack is mushy & undefined, the sound has no push and heavy playing completely disappears in the live mix. I really enjoyed mine till I played it next to my vintage Marks in the band...

Suggestions for a Mesa amp for mid heavy sound

If you're serious about upper mids, bringing some honesty to the discussion, that's just not Mesa's thing. Closest thing I've played to that is the Badlander however that amp has a complete lack of bottom end. Listening to your description I've gone through much the same thing for years, and...

How to date a cabinet build year?

There is no official serial number repository for cabs that I'm aware of, so, with Celestion loaded cabs the best things to do is to open it up & check the date code on the speakers. https://celestion.com/blog/date-codes-how-old-is-my-speaker/

Mesa Mark II chassis screw size

Most of them are #8-32, though I have seen a few chassis that were 10.

    Help identifying vintage amp

I believe that's an effects loop on the back which would make this a Mark I Reissue. The 60W chassis did have a gold tinge to them. I suspect someone has given it a cap job with non- stock caps.

    1976 Boogie SP3 restore help

Nope. Weather is still rough here. Winter coat today! My RP9C came set up from the factory for AT7 in quite a few slots- see pic. However, when Mike B loop modded it, it came back set up for AX7 in all V1-V4. The '99 blue stripe should be done any day now. The + mod check has been cashed!

Anyone replace their IIc+ with a Mark V?

No way on the V or the JP. However, go try a VII. The liquid lead is very good. That said, the two best lead tones that exist are a no-GEQ IIC+ and a SLO.

    Mark VII?

So I just played a VII at GC last weekend! Had a chance to check one out while I was in the city to tide me over while I wait for the one that I ordered. I was playing through an LTD and into a (new stiff) Mesa 212 Recto cab so things I’m familiar with. First thoughts!! The cleans, like all...
