    Mark III+ vs III++

    I've had some no-GEQ MkIIs that were phenomenal. More pure tone with less in the circuit. That said I kind of prefer PEQ to GEQ anyway so putting one in the loop isn't a big deal. All else being equal, I'd take a RP9C IIB+ over a III+. The devil is in the details of course...

    Mark III+ vs III++

    Thanks and yeah. :) I know a guy in Canada with a HRGX IIB+ for sale right now. I like them a lot for rhythm sounds.

    Mark III+ vs III++

    I've had a few of all of them. From my seat, the III red/blue/green are already quite a bit more aggressive than a C+ and the III++ takes it a bit too far. It's definitely higher gain, however in the ones I've had the III++ takes something away from the feels. I've had many IIIs and the III+...

    Most over priced Mesa you have ever seen

    Asking schmasking, I've sold a Mesa for 5 figures. We're in a slump right now however I expect the vintage Marks to continue to appreciate in the long run.

    Mark 3 simul-class for sale question

    Yeah, if you're looking for the top of the market you'll have to be patient. Likely someone who really wants a clean hardwood combo. (Combos are less valuable in general than heads.) I just bought a MINT green stripe long head (tolex) a couple months ago for $2200, which is a good current...

    Earliest Factory IIC+??

    There is a "warm" (early) and a "bright" (later) version of the C+ that Mike can switch between when servicing. I think (?) it has to do with a bright cap on the treble circuit? Anyway, my earliest factory one I had was 12314. RP11, PT105, DRG. Got it in 2022 for $1499 labeled as a MkIII...

    New guy here with possible mark 2 c +

    Opinions are just that, and I'm happy for anyone who finds what they are looking for tonally. Personally the IIC+ and the SLO have the best lead tones I've experienced. For rhythm tones however, I prefer a good IIB or a IVb. (..Or a Rev C Dual Rec.)

    IIc transformer ID

    It has nothing to with sound, it's about reliability. For the 500+PV PTs it's safer to stick with: - 415s - TAD 6L6GC STR - JJ 6L6GC - The Tube Store Preferred Series 6L6GC - Mesa's 5881s All ones I've used long term in Colis, which run closer to 550pv. In terms of sound, so long as the power...

    IIc transformer ID

    According to Mesa they designed the JP tranny around the PT105, however I have a couple issues with this claim. - The JP PT dimensions are the same as the X101 dimensions. (larger than the 100 & 105, but not as large as the 180) - The (early) JP PT plate voltage is around 465 where the X101 is...

    IIc transformer ID

    The 105 is worth the most (theoretically because of the high plate voltage) but it doesn't make it the best. Of the 9 C+ I've had, the one with the best lead feels was a DR with the 105, and the one with the best rhythm feels was a SR with the smaller tranny. My least favorite was a X101. That...

    New Tube Color Code Question

    Reading between the lines, I believe Mesa's stance is that since the tone comes from the preamp section in their designs, having the power tubes within a wide acceptable range is fine. That being said each color code bumps the tube rating about 5-6mA, and depending on the spec of the amp it...

    Mark III simul-class - Issue in Class A mode with EL34's in outer sockets.

    The outer Class A slots can accept 6L6 or EL34, however it's important to have them within a reasonable bias range. It's possible yours are not. That said, it might be time to have the amp serviced.

    Mark iii blue stripe 60w redplating

    I believe the PV determines it. With class a/b in Mesas I shoot for 25-35mv, as mentioned try this. https://www.amplifiedparts.com/tech-articles/tube-amplifier-bias-calculator

    Recent loop modded mark IIb questions

    The 448 is (as you likely know) the TAD Redbase which is based off the 415 design. Same story with The Tube Store Preferred Series 6L6, kind of has Sylvania & RCA roots. I use both of them in different amps. That said if I'm going for pure aggression I just use JJs / 445s. They're the angriest.

    Recent loop modded mark IIb questions

    The thing with the 415s is the ones I've had ran a super hot bias compared to Mesa's current offerings. IMO that's why they sound like they do, more so than magic fairy dust. To be fair I do think they're a fantastic tube, and, tubes are wear items so paying top dollar for 415s that have been in...

    Recent loop modded mark IIb questions

    From a conversation I had with Mike about Presence- The MKII, MKIII non-coli presence is there to boost the highs. However, the IIB & IIC colis have the presence set to squash the highs (where "10" is flat). I'm sure there's more to it but that's an interesting point. Good post, BTW.
